VIDEO: A Message to Nurses Everywhere - page 2

Hello everyone, I have had a very challenging start to nursing. Since starting in Nursing in April 2015, I have been through a lot. I have seen great acts of kindness in nursing wherein nursing... Read More

You may think you have healed, but it is pretty clear you have not. I really hope you are continuing to get help, so you can lead a happy, successful, and fulfilling life.

Did you watch all of the videos Blondy? The first one was darkest because it was a ****** situation, with NO justice. If you have not watched until the very end of the last video then you really cannot say that I have not healed. All I want to do is share some insight I have gained from my intense heartache. The world is hurting right now... and I want to help heal the hurt.

    Sigh.

I didn't realize all of the videos have been posted already. I thought you were posting them in a series.

They are already posted on my YouTube channel. I'd have to get approval for each successive video to post them on here. Sorry if I misspoke/mistyped. They get progressively more optimistic from one through seven. And the others range between 6-9 minutes. It's lengthy..

I'm sure you don't mind, as you've already explained you will absolutely allow this situation to be public, but based on this post and a quick Google search, I have found out quite a bit of information about you. I found your FB page, where you work(ed), and even your family members' names. I personally would not want all of that information out there for the public to see when there is something career-threatening on the line. Please heed everyone's advice and consider removing this video/post.

I am sorry but I have really made up my mind... you will understand if you watch until the end of the last video. It has a very positive message but change does needs to happen and it needs to happen in the hearts of people everywhere..
Not sure who you're talking to here, but for our audience at home the OP has her videos up on youtube.

And I actually did watch all of the videos, but don't really feel like I'm any closer to understanding your intention. And while I think you bring up some interesting points regarding religion and nursing, it's difficult to grasp everything you're trying to say. Women are persecuted so therefore nurses are persecuted? Or persecute one another? Happiness is the only goal, but it doesn't matter unless you have passion? It honestly seems like they were put together by someone who is very upset and wants the world to know that nursing sucks, there is hatred everywhere which is ironic because religion and nursing being associated with caring, and women are persecuted.

And it appears you made all of the videos on the same day - or perhaps you just wore the same sweater each time you recorded - so I find it hard to believe that you're completely healed from this experience because you made 7 videos within the span of 1-3 days and started talking to a counselor.

I would venture that many of us have felt great injustices perpetrated toward us whether personal or professional. And sometimes the pain is seemingly unbearable and lasts a long time. BUT

    1. As others have said, you are not going to change the world in 7 emotional videos. Hatred and meanness lasted long before you and will continue to last for probably centuries if not millennia. And,

    2. It is both disrepectful and ignorant to the entire nursing profession to state that maltreatment, bullying, poor work culture, etc is the norm and that good treatment among colleagues is the exception when you've worked at ONE hospital and have 2 years of experience as a nurse. (But you've worked for 8 months of those 2 years...?)

You're going against over half a century of collective nursing experience here on this thread alone. No one is telling you your experiences in the real world don't count, but - let's be honest - a dozen nurses with MUCH more experience than you probably are more qualified to make generalized sweeping statements about the state of nursing as a whole. Doesn't mean your experience doesn't suck. But we've just seen more.

Also, I'm confused. Do you work as a nurse at your other job? It seems like you want to have nothing to do with nursing anymore, so I'm just wondering what your other job entails.

Before I likely bow out from the rest of this conversation. I will leave you with my favorite Albert Einstein quote.

"The most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a friendly or hostile universe."

It's a pity you've completely discounted nursing based on 1 cruddy experience. It's a long, noble, humbling, beautiful, and unique profession and good can be found everywhere. I think with some time, experience, and finding your niche, you could have done very well.

    I wish you the best.

You want to know what else I find when I google my name? Now the words professional misconduct and incompetence are attached to me name since the Association published their decision. My name might as well be Denise Elaine Crawley Professional Misconduct Incompetence.

You want to know what rlse is interesting? I have reached out to the girl who published my name in the paper with the decision. I asked her what motivated her to search out that kind of journalism. She explained that she's been looking at the discipline decisions for professional bodies for a while, including those of nurses, dentists, doctors. The numbers of individuals who've been disciplined here in New Brunswick Canada is pretty interesting. Much higher rates of disciplinary action in nursing than in medicine or dentistry. I'm not sure if it was medicine or dentistry, but either way.. the example she gave was two in the past 6 years.. one in 2011 and one in 2015. The number of decisions in nursing here? Seven, in 2016 alone. Either there's a bunch of incompetent nurses here in NB or there's something fishy going on.

What did you expect by putting these videos now only on YouTube *and* AN? Not everyone is gonna pat you on the back & say "there, there". Also, some people don't deserve it. I understand writing or making videos can be cathartic. But I would never post those videos online. I haven't been a nurse as long as most of these posters but I have been one longer than you. Even if I got fired or quit a job it *never* crossed my mind to post a rant video online. I also like to be anonymous as possible online. If you don't like the responses you are getting no one is forcing you to keep reading them & respond.

I may have made those videos in one day but it came from months of research while I was in the thick of the main trial of my life.

Your guys' experiences are valid but I think it it safe to say bullying and toxic work environments are a pervasive problem in nursing, a google scholar search supports this. Its a problem just the same as the spread of HIV/AIDS. A search of this forum supports it. How often do you guys see those NETY threads? Stop getting mad at the victim and start getting mad at the system that while it may not necessarily repress you, represses many others. I am going to work to prove that bullying is a repressed group behaviour, and not reflective behaviours of the sex (that being female) that predominates in the profession. There are some pretty awful, sexist assumptions about women and the ones I have considered are all repressed group behaviours. I believe in a good world, I just feel that it is very imbalanced now so it's harder to see the good. I would not be putting my name out there if I did not think it was fundamentally a good world.

Ok, lateral violence isn't something new nor is it only in nursing.
The whole 'NETY' thing is an overused & ridiculous phrase. Most of the people who make posts about that topic aren't getting eaten (bullied). The world is now filled with special snowflakes who think they deserve the world for nothing.
I have never experienced 'NETY', bullying or lateral violence.
The general consensus from nurses who are more experienced than you is that you are coming off in a bad light. You don't have enough experience to make the comments you're making. I have 7 years experience & I wouldn't talk & act the way you are.
