our management decided to cut the number of staff to take vacations during august and september since we will have 4 staff members on maternity leave at this time. naturally, no one else is very happy about this, and we are organizing to fight it.
any ideas out there? thanks! dan

Don't they have an obligation to replace people out on extended leave? Even if not, to have you cover for 4 people seems like it would run into OT, and are you willingly doing it?
If they can get away with not covering the time they will.
Perhaps they would allow you to "cash out" extra time means they are taking the chance to take a summer vacation away. I'm sorry that doesn't solve the problem but may give you the chance to ask for something extra.
