I have just brought some scrubs as I thought that they would make for some good uniforms. We are allowd to wear anything that the uniform shop sells. What would you recommend as the most comfortable unform, and what would you say that a nurse needs besides a pen and a stethoscope. I am starting my new job on a Telemetry unit, and I am trying to think what I should buy so I am prepaired. Thanks for your insight....Emma

I find the best to get are the unisex scrubs. These are the ones with a draw string
waist. because the are unisex they are alittle longer and I find them more roomy. They are also reversibile, so if you get one side dirty you can just switch sides. the tops depend, i also like the unisex that are reversible, but depending on your duties you might opt for something with moer pockets. Defitnitly go with dark solid colors.

As far as brands go, I like COTTONALITY, and LANDAU. I find these scrubs to be a good fit and Very Comfortable. Also, not to mention they come in some pretty groovy patterns!

Emma,
If you are going to be working on Telemetry, you may want to get a pair of calipers for reading the monitor strips. Also maybe a pair of good bandage scissors and a pen light. Good luck with the new job.

List of must haves:
Black ink pen
Red ink pen
Pencil(for Kardex)
Pen light (I recommend Mini Mag instead of wimpy ones)
Tubex injector
Bandage scissors
Watch
Medium size hemostats
1 inch silk tape
Always carry alcohol swabs
Extra torniquet(sp?)
As far as stethoscopes - Littman is the only way to go. The acoustics are much better than others. For low cost, go with Master Classic. For an awesome tool, use Master Cardiology III (what I got after the tubing died on my MC - which took 7 years, by the way!)
Believe it or not all this (minus the stethoscope) will fit in your pockets!
