If you click on the link it states that it is only based on survival rates for 4 illnesses, 3 of which are heart related plus pneumonia. That might explain things...

I work in a hospital that is known worldwide for it's cardiac surgery. It's probably our unit that mostly keeps that hospital afloat or at least contributes substantially. But still this hospital did not make the HealthGrades list?

Apparently 5,000 hospitals nationwide were looked at, the results are based on medicare patients, and taking the sickest of the sick is factored in. I don't have time right now to read and digest this information but somehow the hospitals that are obviously missing from the list must not meet some type of criteria.

Anyway, this is very interesting....
