To mention or not to mention plans for BSN in the future when interviewing

I just went on an interview today for CVICU internship. My experience mostly when applying for jobs and interviewing has been the NM want to know that I'm looking into furthering my education.

Well today, I mentioned that I'm in the process of getting my BSN and she stated that many of her staff is in school and it is hard to staff the unit to meet everyone's school schedule. I told her I plan to do classes on line so I hope and pray that lessened her view of me.

She is interviewing others this week. I feel like I'm at a disadvantage for not having my BSN right now.

Oh will, if this job is for me then it will be.

I had another interview this week for another position, so if this hospital does not accept me then I'm hoping someone else will.

What I've been told is that for MAGNET purposes having a BSN and being enrolled in a RN to BSN program (BSN Tracked) are essentially the same thing, and looked at the same. Whether or not this is actually the case I have no idea. This is just what I've been told.

I agree and have no prob with that. I just feel that she is fed up with having to work around everyone's school schedule.

I have an opposite point of view. When they ask if you plan on continuting your ed meaning they want to kow if you care to further your career as a nurse. I think most potential employers find this desirable, because you are not one of many nurses who content with ADN. You want to better yourself and nursing community. I think it is a positive thing. I always told them my plans if they asked.

Thank you... I appreciate that.

I would mention it. It gets tricky when you are applying to graduate school because the assumption is...you'll leave when you graduate.
