hey friends, I had been contemplating working in the states since I graduated , left that thought alone when I got hired here right after graduating nursing school. Well now the thought has reoccured to me, kinda wanting a change, wanting to see more than my own country... a new start etc, Its not gonna be tomorrow or anything , I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on potential cities for a young'ish, single, med-surg workin RN :p

I think it would have to be the big city cuz I'm such a total city girl.... plus I'm a slave to public transportation for the time being , but I cannot stand being far away from a mall etc (yeah yeah how girly I know!) , there are so many things to consider, and I'm only in the first stages of even thinking about it really , but still if anyone has any definite "yeah thats a great place" or "heck no, dont go there" advice lemme know!

Philly, all the way...the birthplace of freedom, best darn cheesesteaks in the world, and, of course, the Mutter Museum where you can go see the megacolon (LOL!).

Seriously, I love Philly...it's my second home. There's al the cultural stuff you could ever want, and the people are friendly, great shopping. If you get tired of the city, you're about 1h away from Amish country, great shopping for quilts, crafts, Shaker furniture, and pretty countryside.

NYC!!! is the way to go- tons of hospitals in manhattan, the city that never sleeps- everything is open 24/7, food, shopping, museums, bars, more food, incredible sights and smells, subways/buses/feet take you where ever you want to go. you'll have no trouble finding a job, pays great, finding a place to live... now thats the only downside, but some hospitals offer housing asst. i've spent 2 yrs here and its been great, sigh... now in mist of planning my relocation back to los angeles, traffic, smog here i come. good luck!

Just a thought, but when you are looking into moving, perhaps you should consider whether or not that state will accept your license or make you take the NCLEX. Here in there area I live in we seem to recruit alot of nurses from Windsor. Well I just read that Michigan is going to start making the nurses from Canada take the NCLEX. I'm not sure if all states do that or not, but if I understood the article correctly, not all of them do.

I can say I love Philly, but I would live in the burbs, not in the city. Langhorne PA is nice.

NYC?? I have been there a few times, and I am sure I will be flamed, but it is the filthiest city, I did not fall in love with it at all. Sorry folks, that it JMHO. (MY friend would argue my choice, Philly, should be called "Filthadephia!" LOL!)

Can't say much about anywhere else I thought Columbus was DULL (Sorry Renerian :kiss) and don't know about Toledo.

You know I hate snow, so personally, I would go south. Orlando or Tampa sounds REALLY GOOD to me.
