Nurses General Nursing

im currently taking up my master's degree in a university in quezon city. i have a course (seminar in thesis writing) wherein it will prepare you on how to do your thesis or dissertation properly. i do have a couple of topics in mind but right now im torned with 2 titles. the first title is all about career plan and path for nurses. this one was approved already, the population is easy to find since i'll be using my colleagues as my subject for the study. however, this topic is fairly simple to me and will not provide me any challenge. on the other hand, my second topic was all about teenage pregnancies. this intrest me a lot and i belive i will be able to explain the topic properly since it excites me more than the first one. i'm having problem with the sample. i dont know anyone who got pregnant below 15 (since my target sample should range between 13-15). that is why, i wanna know you what you think about this situation. should i settle with the first one which is easier to do but will not give me something to be proud off. or should i pursue with the second title, which i think i could do better. so please help me out my dear colleagues.:banghead:

Why bother if you're not interested? Do the second one and perhaps contact some support groups for teenage mums to find interview subjects.

Pregnancy counseling services, usually staffed by volunteers, may be able to help. They are usually fairly close to Planned Parenthood locations because they want expecting girls to realize that they have more options. I'd give a few of them a call before giving up on this thesis idea. Oh, larger high schools now offer daycare so moms can continue attending classes. Some of those moms may have gotten pregnant quite young. It wouldn't hurt to ask. Some girls may be very willing to talk about their situations.

While it is great to choose a topic that you feel passionate about for your thesis, you will also have to factor in the process you will under go to get ethics approval for each of these studies. Who will give ethics approval to do the study with pregnant teenagers? How will you recruit the subjects without invading privacy? How will you obtain consent from minors?

What resources do you have available in the Philippines? Go from there. I seriously doubt you have PP , being such a Catholic country.

I think you could offer alot of insight on the research that you find about teen pregnancies. There is so much information out there about that and you could always partner with middle school and high schools to get some more information from students. Good luck to you.

There are many ways to recruit subjects without violating privacy. As to whether ethics approval is even needed, well it will depend on what the thesis research requirements are, I guess. Definitely something to consider, though!

thank you for responding to my message. this somehow cleared my head as to what topic should i do. i guess the real problem that i'm going to have with this topic is the subjects themselves. i still dont have any clue as to where can i have the subjects. if you guys could help me out, id really appreciate this. regarding the ethical aspect, its already been covered. ive already asked one of my professor regarding this and she said that the study wont be violating any ethical issues. and im also planning to do a waiver/consent since it will be dealing with minors. most of the problem are already covered, i think. the only thing that i need to have right now is recruiting my subjects. help me out, please..

As JoPACURN asked what resources are available? Do 13-15year old pregnant teens drop out of school and stay home? Do they go to schools with classes for pregnant teens? Do the teens give birth in hospital? Do male RNs have opportunity to work obstetrics? Do Public health nurses or any other nurses do post partum home visits?
