NAH!! my award for "useless employee of the year goes to:-

The overpriced stuffed shirt who took 2 years to work out what the hospital's "core business" was.

Ummmm Hello? Hint Hint - ummm maybe it's sick people???

My favorite is the woman who was to interface housekeeping into the regular nursing unit...in other words the NM would now be their boss too. OK after 3 days of making craft paper posters and doing confidence in our co-workers exercises (???) we find out the lady had been under the impression we were new employees and she was giving her new employee schtick.

Ooookay 6 RN's and 10 housekeepers being taken off the floor for 3 days.......
and that idiot got paid to do that. It seems she never read the memo just showed up in the classroom and ASSumed what to do.

Wouldn't be surprised if she wasn't employee of the year that year.

My guess is these hospitals are taking money paid to them for patient care and using it to pay people to send birtday cards, teach useless classes, and work 2 years to determine the "core business" of a hospital.

Even I know it is NURSING.
  9. by gwenith
Thank-you Yes - it is NURSING but the "core business" was not teh only one we have been subjected to there was the "philosphy" then the "mission statements". then came the "core values" and "core business" as well as the 2 year goverment investigation into why the accident and emgerency department of a regional hosptial was so busy - turn out after over 1 million dollars that the town was short of doctors.

You do not want me to go on about the idiocy that has been perpetrated in the name of human recource development over here.

I think the one that had us laughing hardest was the HRM initiateive that told us we nurses had to become "multiskilled".

Now since I have worked in rural hospitals I have done everything in my nursing career from suture bleeding wound (human and animal) to nail floorboards back down. I even, on one occasion on the return from flying a patient out was given an impromtu flying lesson and flew the plane!!!!

And they who could only do one job spent thier days sending memos and writng submissions about how we would be more efficient if we were mulitskilled.

Are you saying hip boots and floatation device because you think the do do is deep?

Hey it's the thought that counts, why be so grumpy about it? Would it have been better to have been ignored?

Something tells me you need to vent.

I can beat that. My husband works for a company that is a subsidiary of a huge international insurance/recovery company. Every Christmas the CEO of the entire organiziation sends out a Christmas Card to every single employee (I'm talking thousands of people).

What's on the front of the card? A picture of all 4 of his kids. The first year is was them all dressed up in their individual sports equipment. One was in their soccer uniform with a ball, the other was in a snow suit/skis, etc.

Last year's card was just wacked. It was a picture with each of his kids jumping up in the air and the background was a sky. Kind of like, "look at my kids! I'm so rich I can make them fly!"

People in my husbands office take the cards and put them in their wallets and ask people if the "wanna see a picture of my kids".

For all the money they waste on printing this stuff up and then the 37 cents for the stamp, plus the cost to hire temps to come in and stuff all the envelopes, I'd rather they just send me a check for 7 bucks it probably costs to manufacture and mail out all this junk.

Ha! My birthday was in May. I got a card last week (LAST WEEK!) in my mailbox at work saying Happy Birthday from the CEO- trhis card is worth a free breakfast (valued up to THREE whopping dollars) in the cafeteria during the month of my birthday. My birthday was in MAY. So I took it down to get breakfast, figuring, hey, they sent it late, so it should still be good. They refused to honor it, saying it was expired. Didn't matter whose fault it was that it got to me late. Didn't matter that they originally planned three dollars worth of food for me in the budget, and didn't matter that because I'd never received the card that technically the three dollars hadn't been spent and was technically waiting for me, even though it is July. Didn't. Matter. A. Bit. To top it off, the cafeteria woman looked at me like I was crazy for trying to use an expired card, like there is some cafeteria-food conspiracy going on to take advantage of them.

    This is me sighing.
