Texas hospitals

Nurses General Nursing

Recently got a paper with 3 different Texas hospitals offering "winter contracts" $39/hr, $500/month housing, completion bonus for 6 month contract. Anyone every tried one of these. Are there any hidden disadvantages? Sounds good, but I know there is always a catch.

Disadvantage is that it's Texas

I believe Eisenhower Medical Center in Palm Springs, CA has the same kind of program.

(Sorry if I offended any of you Lone Star people)

Hmmm...let me see...winter in WA or winter in TX. I don't see any disadvantages from my perspective here in WA...

The first that grabs me is that it's a 6 month contract! Six months somewhere you don't know anything about can be a verrry long time! Next the housing amount if way low, but the rate they're are paying is high for Texas. But I would quess that maybe and up to $39/hr but I don't know that for sure. And that maybe why the low 500/mo housing. I know few places in Texas that you can get anything decent for that amount. But then again it depends on where they're offering it at.

There are some really awful hospitals in Texas...as in any place now days. So I would check out which hospitals it is, and then think about it.

you don't say which hospitals. i am moving to midland, texas in december. this would be an interesting way to start the new year. also, $39 per hour is for sure the worst shift on the worst day. but it is worth considering.

Texas has no unions for nurses, so we have very little say in our working conditions.

So....we probably exhibit the worst trends in healthcare as far as nursing morale and burnout rates.( which usually translates to more difficult working conditions...as Brownie noticed).

There are some hospitals better than others...and we all have a favorite place... I'm in the Fort worth area and will be glad to share what my experiences have been around here. If you'd like some info just throw me an email at [email protected]. :)

Also I agree with Brownie...6 months is a loooong time to be somewhere you immediately find you don't like. ;)
