teaching phlebotomy class

Hi all,

Well, I have been recently promoted and will initiate a CNA to Tech class with the two items being taught are phlebotomy and EKG. I have no books to start with, and really have no clue where to start. I thought I would go to the local book store and get a book, and the guy behind the counter just looked at me like I was from space. I would think there is at least an A&P book to show where the proper veins are for venipuncture, but ended up empty handed. Any advice on where to look next? Thanks!

i know there is a phlebotomy book out there somewhere because i had one once upon a time. have you tried amazon?

I was actually just looking through this book yesterday since it caught my eye. It appears to be rather detailed. In the procedures section, it provides the rationale for each step which will be helpful for you and your students.

Doesn't' your facility have a policy procedure manual you can use? How have they trained the previous employees? What do they use to evaluate the employee? What do they use as reference for discipline? This should all be in writing somewhere in your facility.

What about a local community college bookstore that teaches a phlebotomy class? They should have a book there, and it's not like you have to be a student to purchase the book. We had a really great book for class -- it was very concise, and I don't remember it costing a fortune. I wish I could remember the title, but I took it like 3 semesters ago.

Just to clarify, we are a new hospital that opened up 3 months ago, and I am responsible for getting together all the above. The plan, the tests, the initiation of CNA to techs, ect. I am also working closely with the CEO to determine the legality of all the circumstances, ect. Again, thank you all for the help!
