Tampa General Hospital?

  1. I'm wondering if there is anyone on here who knows anything about Tampa General Hospital. They have a nursing student stipend program that I'm looking into, but I don't know anything about the place. Just curious if it's a good place to work.

    Thanks all!

They are a busy progressive hospital with a lot of areas to grow and learn in. They are Level 1 trauma center and a burn center. They had many problems, especially when the city got involved but that was several years ago. I've heard they have a great CEO now, are turning a profit, and are a good place to work. I have a friend that works in critical care there and loves it.

But like anywhere, nursing is stressful, staff is short sometimes.

    Good luck.

    Thanks, Tweety!

Can you suggest any other hospitals in the area that I should look in to? I won't be graduating until 2005, so I'm just sort of exploring my options right now.

    Thanks,
    Todd

There are other good hospitals. I tend to like the big not-for-profits, like Tampa General. St. Joseph's is another large not-for-profit trauma center where a new grad will learn quite a lot.

Morton Plant in Clearwater is good so I hear.

Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg offers "earn as you learn", meaning they pay your 40 hours pay for 16 hours work while you go to school (tuition and books paid for of course), and you commit for two years afterwards. It's another not-for-profit trauma center.

I'm not as familar with hospitals on the Tampa side of the bay, just heard good things about Tampa General and St. Josephs.

    Good luck.

TGH is a great teaching institution. I am thinking about going there myself after I finish my BSN degree. They offer GN rotations and many internships most of their staff are GN's and the educators are great.
Its a huge hospital I always get lost so finding myway its going to be the first challenge !!!
    good luck!
