So I've been feeling way better about work lately. I've felt more confident and things have been going better. One of the MANY things i've adapted to includes some changes I've made to my pre-work routine.
I bought myself a pair of nice earrings (studs, work appropriate). I wear those, put on light makeup before I leave - makes me feel better.
And also, I always play the Demi Lavato song "Confident" when I enter my hospital's parking garage. It is the last thing I hear before I clock in. I've done that every shift I've worked for the past couple weeks and I am going to continue!
What is your pre-work routine/is there anything that you do to help get you mentally prepared for work?
I try to get all the crying out before arriving on hospital property.
First time posting long time stalker! Compelled to post on this one! I buy 10 banana laffy taffy in the gift shop before every shift, anytime I don't I have a horrible shift!
YES!!! Work out on the elliptical, listening to "go get 'em" type songs. On my way to work I listen to ZDoggMD's parody of Lose Yourself. That gets me so pumped. "...no longer bow down to status quo."
I too have started wearing make up to work. It makes me feel good, and gives me a good start to the day.
I take a hot bubble bath and buy my cherry lime energy drink and beef jerky stick from a local gas station
I always either eat a little something or drink a protein shake on the way to work....guaranteed bad morning with no breaks or lunch if I don't!
When I worked the floor I would pray on the way to work. I am not overly religious, but feel a strong calling to my profession. I would ask the Universe for grace and a spirit of giving, patience and the wisdom to keep my core self outside of the drama.
Didn't always work. Ha!
While walking into the hospital, I say to myself, "Expect the unexpected!"
Davey Do, that is most realistic response.....)) grins ((
Arrive early...sit in car...write
I always try to arrive to the hospital 30 minutes before my shift so I can sit in my car and simply relax for a few minutes and clear my head. I always seem to have a hectic shift whenever I arrive to the hospital 5 minutes prior, when parking is also basically full, which leaves me running to the time clock to swipe in lol.
I try to arrive at least 15 minutes early, that way I don't have to stress about traffic etc. before even getting to work. I used to go inside but then all the night nusres want to start report early so now I just wait in my car, drink my coffee and maybe eat something. I make it a point to enjoy the few minutes of peace before the hectic day, either quiet, listening to music, or reading scripture/prayers helps me.
Listen to music on the way to work, get there early enough to find a decent parking spot (the decent, closer lot is very small and fills up quickly), focus on my breathing, and remind myself that it's only for 8-12 hours (depending on which workplace I'm at).
