The partner was let off because he denied any involvement. In January when her baby is old enough to be weaned she will be buried up to the chest and then stoned to death. This story has been in the news for awhile-thank your higher power that you live in America.(we don't stone accused adulterors but we do violate other's rights regularly)This kind of outrage and violation of human rights is going on all over the world-check out Amnesty International if you want to learn more about it and what you can do to help stop it....

I do believe that the latest news is that her sentence has been revoked; the reasons for this are not clear, but it can't have hurt that many organizations organized letter writing and publicity campaigns and that, at one time, Oprah Winfrey took up the woman's cause.

This form of punishment is not that uncommon in some parts of the world. These parts of the world tend to be Muslim fundamentalist where there is no separation between religion and state as in some parts of Nigeria and the East. It was dramatized in "Death of a Princess" some years ago.

Do not confuse this type of practice with moderate Islamic communities, many members of which, male and female, are as shocked as we are.

The 'answer' may be to continue diplomatic relations with such regimes, encourage trade and foster prosperity. Only the very poorest, isolated women in the world can be treated like this and some regimes that were formerly this draconian have moved on.

Thank you for being outraged. Now join Amnesty International or any one of numerous Human Rights groups and work against these abuses.

I read that the man "got off" because he denied having sexual relations with the woman and that three other men stood up for him and agreed that he didn't. Now how would the other 3 know that!!! Sure would like to do a paternity test on him.

I am outraged at the abuse these women endure!

The thing is, I'm sure the people in that country are outraged at some of the stuff we do.

No, I'm not condoning this, just realizing the differences. Here, we inject and electrocute for crimes that may not even be recognized there.

It is comforting to know that there are some folks out there with some sort of ethics and k nowledge of right from wrong. It is amazing that in a day and age like today that a law so archaic(sp) and antiquidated as "burying a person up to the neck in sand and stoning them till all life has ceased" is allowed to stand what with all the human rights movements and laws for humane treatment for all internationally is even still functioning.....but then that is the difference between a 3rd world country and our privilege of living in a democratic, free country.

Thank God (or deity of choice) for miracles!
