Staying for Meetings after Your NIGHT SHIFT!

Don't you hate it when your managers or team leaders make a meeting the FIRST thing in the morning? Everybody has to come, even the night shift! AUGH! :angryfire I mean, really, I spend about 12 hours running after doctors, meds, technicians, then now I have to spend a couple more hours listening to inservice that I will forget 5 minutes after the meeting is done? I mean what is the point of the inservice/meeting/whatever if you're not going to retain it afterwards?

And then the safety repercussions! SAFETY! You're tired, sleepy, and you probably have a huge headache. That's after 12 hours. You have to stay for a couple more, then drive home! I do not care how near you live; with those kind of conditions, you are a hazard to yourself and others on the road! Sometimes I even find myself dozing off between lights! And that's without a meeting in the end. I mean CMON! Why do they do this?! ARGH! How do you gus handle it?

hi...

I think its really stupid of them to call for a meeting first thing in the morning especially when your from night duty....its not fair for you....your head should understand and keep things in balance..your head should reschedule it in the afternoon so that everyone can attend...

I would personally rather stay after than run back later, or on a day off. Just me.

Quite honestly I'd rather have staff meetings right when I'm getting off work at 730 or 8 instead of working all night, going home and then being expected to be back at work at 2pm during my sleep time for a mandatory meeting.

as a DON..i just had meeting last night at 1030pm so my staff would have the option to come in early for night shift or stay for the 0730 meeting. Not all managers are inconsiderate!!! (and it isn't always possible to have night meetings/speakers fyi)

I don't sleep well when I work nights. To stay an extra few hours for an inservice would make me a danger on the road driving home! There are laws about driving sleep deprived. I f you get in an accidnet you will be charged with careless driving. My attitude is, if you want me to have the inservice, I suggest you make several dates to offer it, so all can attend safely. I would refuse to go

I think the biggest problem is that some nurses travel an hour or so to get to work. And they are coming back at 7 pm. So this could really cut in on their sleep time.

... Why don't they just shorten the meetings or send printed info? Someone can read it on the john just as well as they can sit there and listen to someone ramble on for two hours (or more)... If they have questions, it's not as if they can't find the right person to ask...

(Or schedule two different meetings. Or alternate meetings and record it so the other shift can watch via webcam on their own time) It's not that difficult... (Assuming the meetings aren't covering HIPPA protected information, that is... as then recording wouldn't be possible- but you get the idea LOL)

Personally I hate it when any meeting is not scheduled for right after work. It is not always possible to attend while working say in the afternoon. It burns my hide to come in on a day off driving one hour each way, just wrecks the day off. Not to mention my time and gas.

What does she need to elaborate on? She just said she would rather go to the meeting after work than come in on a day off.
