SSN, NCLEX & CGFNS issues

Hello,

I have a quick question for everyone. I am a Canadian trained RN who has passed the NCLEX exam as well as my CGFNS screening. I did this about a year or so ago. I am not sure of my timeline for moving to the States to seek employment and I am worried that all of my work might just expire if I don't register with some board of nursing. From my review I see that they require a SSN which I won't have until I get a job. So that is the crux of the issue. In essence I am looking for a way to register so when I am ready to make the move I won't be back a square one. Does anyone know of a State that will allow people to register without a SSN?

Thank you!

Hey there,

Minnesota is supposed to be the quickest and you don't need a SSN to get the license. Michigan will also give you a license without a SSN. However, you can apply anywhere regardless of the SSN. You do not require a license to get the TN visa. You just need the CGFNS visascreen and a job offer. You can write the board for any state and after you get the visa, you'll get the SSN. It takes about 10-14 days to get the SSN #.

Put in Social Security Administration, United States into your search engine. Go to the portion that tells you how to get a ssn if not a citizen. You do not have to be employed.
