Spooky Happenings on Shift?

Anyone got any stories about incidences that happened to them that didn't feel right or were downright spooky?

Let me tell you mine.

It was a dark and stormy night...nah, just kidding ;)

A few years ago, I attended the scene of an accident. A two car wreck, the devastation was complete and I remember being surprised to find a man at the scene, lucid and with what appeared to be minor damage. I took details from him: names of the occupants of the vehicles, how the accident happened etc. His hand was damaged and the ring he was wearing - a distinctive gold and onyx setting with an intricate design of a griffin in the middle (I'll never forget it) - threatened to cut off circulation so I sent him over to the truck to be treated. Then I was called to assist the firemen cutting bodies from the wreckage and as they pulled off the car door there he was, in the car wreck with the life knocked out of him, the guy I'd just been talking to, exact same ring attached to his damaged hand.

Oh that is spooky. Just wondering did you ever check and see if the name was the same?

I had a CNA that called me in to help her with a probelm with a resident. I work in assisted living so a CNA has to let me know the urgency of the probelm if I am busy (which is 100% of the time), and she said very confused 'ummmmm stat?'. Okay I rushed there!

She was trembling and standing outside the patients room...a very strong willed CNA to boot...didn't think anything could intimidate or scare her..so this was wierd!!! I asked why she wasn't in the room if a nurse is called stat..why wasn't she with the patient?!?!?

History...this was the room of an older gent. His wife had passed away three months before, and they were seriously like two peas in a pod. SO full of love for one another you could feel it and feel warm and forever wish for that type of relationship! When she died, we thought he would follow suit to be with her...but actually he once told me she would not have wanted that..that maybe she needed to make preparations for him up in heaven so their eternity together can be blissful! (oh man I am tearing up)...

My poor CNA was actually physically terrified...she said shaking, "she is in there, she is talking to him!". I was dumbfounded, then looked into her eyes...I understood!!!

I went into the room, and before I could get beyond the wall to his room I HEARD IT! OMGosh my blood ran cold!!! I heard a womans soothing voice saying...honey it is time! I announced my presence respectfully to the room, and walked in. There he was, smiling and peaceful as if he saw a vision of GOD himself! His breathing just about to go, pulse almost absent...dying but totally unafraid and happy. I leaned over him, and quietly wished him "pleasant journey". He died as the words escaped my lips...

I have a hard time going into that room for quite some time...but recently another very much in love couple is there, very full of love...very much like them! Maybe that room isn't such a creepy room afterall...but a place where true loves can find their loved one when it is their time. Full of love and memories like a magnet for others...and a becon to the next journey where you can be hand and hand for eternity!

It was creepy and totally wonderful at the same time...I will never forget it!

Nope, none whatsoever.

Was the guy in the wreck with the ring a twin?

I'm the rational type . .. go figure.

steph

this did not happen to me but this guy told that one time when he was a young man he was having an affair with the wife of a friend of his...the friend worked off-shore and was gone for a two week period every month which left the friend and the wife plenty of time to be together

he said that one night he was asleep with the woman when he woke up and saw the husband and the foot of the bed, standing there looking down at them...they guy said he jumped up and ran from the house...later he learned that his friend had been killed that night at work on the off shore station

he said he never again had an affair with a married woman..the woman had seen nothing and could not understand why he had severed the ralationship

I have one that just happened last week.

My patient was a young person in their thirties who massively stroked following a fifth redo sternotomy since childhood. The patient was gone, we were waiting to withdraw support until family from out of state could get there.

About 30 minutes before the end of my shift as I and my charge nurse were talking about what the plan was, how the patient was doing, etc, this patient went into svt with a rate in the 160-170's. This, after a week of complete normal sinus rhythm with no ectopy. The patient's pressure was only nominally effected so we took a wait and see route and in the mean time I suctioned the patient to try and get a vagal response.

Didn't work.

Isn't there already a looooong thread about stuff like this?

The charge nurse left the room to go call the doc for me and the patient very shortly thereafter converted back to NSR.

Each of our rooms have a code button in them to push in the event of a code. It's a VERY loud and obnoxious fire alarm sounding thing. As I gave report about this patient to the oncoming nurse, the code button suddenly went off. We shut the glass door to our room thinking, whew, glad that's not us! All the sudden more than a half-dozen nurses and doctors came running to the room with the crash cart! It was our room!

I looked over at my patient and everything looked fine, NSR, good bp, 02 sats, etc. When we tried to reset the code alarm, it would not reset. We had to use an 02 sat monitor to jam up against it to get it to be quiet. We called maintenance to check it out.

Did this patient not want us to talk about them?

We've actually had two exorcisms perfomed in two of our rooms since I've worked in this ICU. It's weird. Many nurses are completely freaked out by stuff like this. It doesn't bother me at all.

Another time I was working in a private room (one that had been previously exorcised). Me and another nurse were talking about the room being haunted. A little bit later I sent my labs for this patient and looked up the results. The PTT came back 66.6. Just a weird coincidence, I guess.

Okay, so something weird happened just now.

I went to edit my last post to add...."isn't there already a loooong thread like this?"

If you look at my last post it does say that it was edited at 1:00pm (the time on my computer at least), but the comment I added is no where to be seen.

hmmmm.

edit. just checking

Okay when I was in Texas I worked as a CNA in a LTC facility and we had cameras in the lobby. The monitor to view who was coming in and out was on our end. One night as I was finishing up with my residents my charge nurse asked me if I would go check and see who the people in the lobby were visiting. There were 3 of them we could see on the monitor 2 men 1 woman.

When I went into the lobby there was noone there. I went outside and noone was there. As I entered to come back into the facility it was chilly in the lobby but I didn't think anything about it. I went back to the nurses station to tell her (charge nurse) that there was noone there. She said yes there are right there and were looking right at you as you were in the lobby. She said their bodies turned towards me as I was entering outside and as I came inside they turned again to watch me go back to the station. Too freaky!!!

...................................................................................................

Another one happened at the facility I didn't see but one of the CNA's were telling me about it and several saw it. This CNA was about to do her last rounds when she saw Mrs. XXXXXZX walking in the hallway barefooted. She told the little lady that it was time to go to bed and did she need some help. The little lady turned to her smiled and kept on walking. The CNA figured she was happy about something but didn't know what. Well when she went in to check the other resident in the lady's room she saw that same little lady who had passed 10-15 minutes earlier. The CNA quit working there that night!!

I finished the initial post in a rush. Sorry Angelique! I didn't mean to leave you dangling! :)

Everyone in and around the scene was dead, apparently on impact. This was why I thought it strange that this guy should be lucid and standing but took notes regardless. But when the lid was pulled back and I saw his face I just knew it was the same bloke I'd been talking to. My blood ran cold; I couldn't think straight and I was wedged between fascination by this and terror. I ran back to the truck, checked with the medics and they told me no one had sought treatment from them. I notified the police on scene and they ran a perimeter check in case there really was someone out there wandering around with an injury but they didn't find anything.

But as there was no information on the bodies, the only information we had to go on was the notes I'd taken in my book which were later proven to be accurate. And no, he wasn't a twin.
