Spinal Cord Injury

I need to pick your collective brain. My bf (33 yo) was involved in a motorcycle accident nearly a year ago and suffered a "complete" T6 spinal cord injury resulting in paralysis from the nipple line down. I took care of him in the ICU/trauma unit immediately after the accident and for the several weeks following his surgery (posterior cord decompression, stabilization w/ rod placement from T2 to T12).

It's been an education to say the least. After 8 years of nursing (mostly in critical care) I've come to realize how very little I know about spinal cord injury. This last year has been a nightmare for him, and I'm doing my best to educate myself and share information w/ him.

I did a search here for spinal cord injury and found very little information. I also checked out the rehab nursing section but found very little relevant information there either.

Does anyone out there know of any good sites r/t SCI? Anyone work in rehab nursing w/ SCI? I've tried "googling" for SCI but was overwhelmed w/ the amount of information. Specifically I am looking for post-acute SCI information (obviously), nursing, medical, social issues, etc.

If anyone has even the tiniest lead, I would much appreciate your input.

It's hard to watch him suffer through this hell called SCI and feel helpless and powerless.

Will any of these help?

I'm very sorry to hear about your bf...it's great that he has such a supportive partner like you to help him through this.

Thanks ERNurse. I'll take a look at that site too.

Thanks. We belong to the board at spinewire, it's the best I've seen so far. I'll chrck out some of the other sites as well. It would be great to meet a nurse here that deals w/ people w/ SCI. If anyone knows anyone, please keep me posted. I'd appreciate it.
