Sorry about inappropriate post

I definately wasn't trying to elicit a diagnosis from anyone and of course I will be asking a million questions to my doc tomorrow, was just looking for a little encouragement from people who have been in my situation with an ASCUS pap so I can sleep a little better tonight - I guess insomnia it is then, haha!

this happend to me back in 93, i was 20 at that time. I had 2 paps come back abnl (ASCUS). I was scheduled for a colposcopy. with that procedure it pinched some because they were doing a biopsy, I had that come back abnormal as well and I had to have cryogurgery (they freeze the first layer of skin on your cervix) that was a little scary. When cryo was done i was leaking like a lite period and had to wear a pad for about a week. But that was the best thing that could have happend because i have never had an abnormal pap since. Good luck to you, hope everything goes well.

good luck and dont stress until you have to. I and many of the females in my family have had abnormal paps. I had huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge anxiety over it and envisioned myself with a fricken colostomy before I even had cancerous cells. and of course like in most situations it didnt convert to cancer so I wasted all that stress. As long as you continue to be monitored by your physician you are relatively safe. I dont know your original post but I hope that helps you avoid unnecessary sorrow.

Same here. Try not to stress till you have to (if you even have to) - I know it's easier to say than do, but this is more common than most people know - since we don't exactly walk around sharing that info as lunch conversation ("Little Jimmy just got another tooth." "Oh, that's great. I'm having abnormal paps, can you pass the salt?").

BTW - no need to apologize about posting, sometimes people just freak out and reach out with questions when what you wish for even more is re-assurance (even when you know the rules). Any time we face our mortality, it shakes us up.

Best of luck!

Christa, I had that once about 25 years ago. I quit smoking and it went away. I also quit other risky behavior. And had those other procedures listed above.

My daughter just had a colposcopy done on Monday with two tissue samples taken. My advice (not medical!!) is have someone go with you. I had the same thing years ago and went alone. Was fine to drive and all that, just very emotional! Same thing for my daughter, she was physically fine, but needed a shoulder to cry on and I was at work. I'll tell you the same thing I told my daughter, "wait for the results and until then, say a prayer and have faith!". Good luck!!

I had this done about 13 years ago, along with a LEEP procedure. I am fine now; no more abnormal paps. It is scary, but this sort of thing happens often. Good luck!

I had an abnomal pap in 93-had the LEEP, then had a pap every 3 months for a year then every 6 months for a year and then a pap yearly-all were negative until 2008-glad I was still going yearly instead of the rec. to go every 3 years if they have been normal for so long. Going every year to have a pap saved my life as I was diagnosed with cervical cancer-currently cancer free.
