Dec 3, '06Quote from meownsmileWhere can a minor donate blood? My daughter wants to and at 17 they wont let her anywhere.Hmm, someone has messed up someplace. My daughter gave blood a month or so for the first time. She called me at work (which was upstairs from where they were having the blood drive) and wanted to know if she could. She is under 18. I told her of course, so as a new donar they typed her blood. We got her donar card the other day that showed her as AB+. Well she was the last child and as it happens they had started typing the newborns with their first labs. On her birth certificate it shows her as type B+. Anyone got any ideas here, or do you think someone just screwed up?
I called the blood bank and they checked the unit,, she said it hadnt been sent back or had any discrepancies, and it had been sent out for use a couple weeks ago.
Dec 3, '06The blood mobile from the Red Cross use to come to our high school and as long as you were over 16 years old and your parents gave permission then you could donate. I think most of the kids did it to get out of class for a little while.
Dec 3, '06In Illinois minors can donate at age 16 with parental consent. Agreed Penny, the kids love to do it,, gets them out of class and hey free cookies and juice and they can play up the attention if they get a little light headed in the process.
PR_N--- I am Apos, my hubby is Bpos.. 3 kids,, 1-0+, 1-A+ and now 1-AB+.
Grandparents, were 1-Oneg, Opos, Apos, and Bpos.
It says on the cert, childs blood type so i dont think they mixed that up however i guess it could have been a typo by someone on the unit when she was born.
