I'm new here and I'm takeing LVN course in this fall semister.Then i have a question. Do we study about HIV and STD? I'm just curious.... and after becoming a nurse,can we work at some kind of medical office as a desk worker or clerk?and what the difference between nurse and community health worker?Both of them can work at clinics or hospitals,right? Any info is appriciated.Thank you.

You study about diseases but you probably won't study them in detail.

As a nurse you should not be working as a clerk.

A community health worker is not a licensed nurse....cannot work in direct patient care or give meds/treatments.

In some areas the hospitals do not hire LVNs/LPNs. You would have to check with your local hospital. Most sub-acute facilities come pretty close to a hospital setting. Well the ones I have been in anyways.

Thank you for your reply. Do you know what community worker do? I don't quite understand... They also work at clinics or hospitals,right? Usually,nurses can't work in the office? I heard that some nurses can be information clerk...Is that wrong info? Any info is appriciated. Thanks.

Curious...do you WANT to be a nurse, or do you really want to be a desk clerk? Your posts suggest that you might prefer to work in a medical office, in which case, I have to ask if it's NURSING you want, or an office job that might not require a license?

Thank you for your reply.Sorry I made you confused...I mean I do want to be a nurse.Then,what my question is that when you go to clinic there are some people at counter who give us numbers etc... Are they nurse?If so,they are LVN? or community health worker? Any info is appriciated. Thank you.

i think the people at the clinic that take your insurance card and all that stuff are receptionists or maybe medical secreteries.

Then the ones who take your vitals, patient history etc. are usually either medical assistants (CMA/RMA) or LPN's. And in small doctor's offices, the medical assitant job and the receptionist job may be done by the same person. So, yes, you can work at a clinic with an LPN lisence.

I never heard of community health workers, though...

honey, don't waste your time and money. Your don't need a nursing license to do what you want. Why not try going for a Medical Assistant, less time in school, less money up front and they work in doctors offices, urgent care centers and clinics.

Medical office assistants take your vitals, come in and check with you about what you are here to see the PCP about and give injections in the office, help collect urine samples in the office, ect. They do some of the roles of the nurse but to not have a nursing license and do not have to go to school as long as you do to be a nurse. Sounds like you are more interested in this type of a job.

Puppy, I'm curious.....you say you want to be a nurse but you have absolutely no clue what it is nurses do. WHY do you want to be a nurse?
