i am seriously having problems trying to study for our tests. i'm in my 2nd semster (med-surg) of adn nursing program. i have to do well on the test we're having tomorrow or else i'm afraid i won't pass this course. my clinical instructor is always praising me and using me as an example to the rest of my clinical group because i have the confidence she thinks we all should have, as well as my personality and technical skills, while this is good news, technical skills won't pass me in the class. so we have a test tomorrow on about 9 different chapters and i feel like i'm having a mental meltdown. i'm so overwhelmed with the amount of information i'm supposed to absorb. any advice for studying would be ever so appreciated!!!!!!!!

Do you have any nclex practice books/cds? I always ended my studying in nursing school by testing myself with questions from those books. I had one that I could pick the topic (ex. cardiac, respiratory) and I would do a ton of questions. Good luck!

I have always found that they barely skim the surface of all of that info- they have to, otherwise the test would need to be 900 questions long. Stick to the big information, and the nursing implications of the disease and the s/s.

What worked for you the first semester?

I always found anything that was repeated during lecture was bound to be test material. Thankfully, most of our test material came from lecture...hardly ever from the book.

Good luck...now get offline and study!! :)

i actually don't, but was thinking about it all day. if i had the money i would so be at the bookstore buying one, but i have been trying to look on web for some nclex practice, a few found, but i don't know if it's helping me for the test tomorrow. the hardest part of all this, is i have wanted to be a nurse since i was a child, i want this so bad. so i study everday reading my notes and assigned reading, i write down every word of what my intructor says in class. i still don't understand what i'm doing wrong. thanks for the advice!

ps i passed the first semester by the skin of my teeth. oh yeah, we also had a cheating scandal a couple of years ago, so the chair is the one who picks the questions for the test from an nclex bank.

ditto that. Once I stopped trying to read all those chapters, my grade actually went up. We even had one instructor tell us that the assigned reading was to reinforce or clarify lectures.
