I am a charge nurse here at Texas Childrens Hospital in Houston. (the largest in the country...751 beds) I work on the Neuro floor so we see your sons type of case all the time. there are several options for them to place the drain...including into the Jugular.. I have a question for you...have they tapped your sons fonatnel yet and if they have what is is csf protien level. do not let them put in a shunt if it is above 200. You have a higher risk of it clotting off esp in a hydroceph. baby. He may need an EVD if it is high until it drops. They aldso have new programmable shunts that can tolerate higher proteins but they are not used alot due to the high cost. But they are worth it generally.
Please feel free to email me at email@example.com
with any questions. I will be happy to try and answer them for you or find out if I do not know the answer. I will be also happy to include my phone number here in Houston if you want to speak with me.
