silly question

  1. OK! I know that this may sound really stuipid, but do nurses ever selebrate any hollidays with their colleges? I mean, decorating office for a Christmas and bringing some Christmas cookies to work? What exactly do you do? or do you do anything?

I celebrate holidays wherever I am, and anybody can join in if the spirit moves them. Nurses always appreciate food, haven't you noticed?

We try to celebrate almost anything we can decorate for. We put up some of the silliest looking paper decorations at the nursing station. But we really try to catch all of them if possible. Our day shift usually brings food for the bigger holidays like Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our night shift tends to need no particular reason to celebrate with food and often does so every couple of weeks! Murder on diets!!!!!

Yep. My unit always had a big Halloween costume party hosted at someone's house and a big Christmas party hosted at someone's house. For everything else--potluck and decorations at work.

I have been fortunate to work with some pretty great nurses. We don't always get along, we sometimes disagree, but like a "family" we set aside our differences and celebrate the holidays. We usually bring in the ancillary departments too--pharmacy, respiratory therapy, housekeeping--all who want to share in the in-house celebration. We take turns eating and invite the docs to share our meal. It makes an otherwise dreaded occaision into a tolerable occaision when we pull together to try and make the best of a not so good situation. I hope you will find a group of nurses to work with that will show you nursing at its best! Good luck

Even the worst places I worked always celebrated together, New Years is my personal favorite- since I have worked it for 4 years running now! We also celebrate birthdays, weddings, babies, and graduations- lots of food and fun in our units. (Probably too much food!)

We totally celebrate together...any excuse to EAT!! The docs buy us fruit, nuts (ha ha...I guess they're trying to tell us something about our personalities), and chocolate every xmas. We decorate the whole unit, complete with a tree, at xmas. Easter is the same. On NYE this year, I brought in some non-alcoholic bubbly so the girls on duty could have a toast at midnight.
