Should I wear this to the next staff meeting?

Nurses Relations

Published

Ha ha. No, really... HAHAHAHAHAHA!

I'm currently assigned to a unit staffed with very competent nurses. They are also working some ridiculously long hours.

A non medical friend of mine designed and printed up this tee shirt, and sent it to me.

I don't think I can wear it in public unless I retire (or would like a forced retirement). I do think anyone who has been a nurse for more than a week can relate to the funny in this.

I think it means "Safety first" became a third priority, because the nurse working a week long is tired and fell asleep.

It's funny, I just reopened this thread and saw "Safety Third" again and it immediately clicked this time! Just goes to show what two hours of being awake, and 3 cups of coffee, does to one's brain.

Took me a second. Don't think the general public would get it though.

ok, I got it instantly, and smiled broadly. NO, I don't think I'd wear it in public either, but I suppose it'd make a nice sleep/lounge shirt at home, while I was OFF! :)

You could probably get away with it, because most people won't get it. But, your job may frown upon it.

My husband had a bumper sticker made once that said "Back off. I'm a postal worker." The post office he worked for told him he couldn't park his car in the lot if he kept that on the bumper. He was just trying to be funny, but they didn't find it amusing at all. ;)

"Safety Third" has become a broadly used meme in the last few years--for everything from workplace safety issues, to people doing dangerous things without thinking it through. It is a play on the term "Safety First."

I'm surprised so many here have not heard of it. But then again, you all are probably working long hours and don't get out much. :)
