Should I or Shouldn't I?

Your resume was forwarded to my campus in Jacksonville, Florida by the Dean at our Denver, CO campus in consideration of the position for Assistant Academic Dean that is presently available. It is a fulltime position from 1pm to 10 pm, Mon-Fri.

I've been having a difficult time with this; input please!:confused:

Integrity is doing the right thing,even if no one is watching; Truth,

but then I think about all the nursing students and what I could possibly bestow upon them (if they listened) educationally.

Am flying down next week and checking it out along with the possibility of a part-time position in a nursing home.

Thanks to all and I'll let everyone concerned know of decision.

I personally would take the Asst. Dean positon, I would stay as far away from Coprate America as they for the most part are total scum, (talking from experience). What kind of educaton do you have that your getting all these offers? BTW I'm jealous that you get to move, did I ever mention I hate where I live ;)

It's a combination of experience (26 years in nursing) and education,but all the book knowledge in the world doesn't mean a thing without common sense. That's why I stress 'Critical Thinking' so much. Remember, we as nurses aren't caring for books; books have no feelings,they're simply a knowledge base for caring for those that put their dreams,faith,health,hope,and trust in each and everyday.

BSN (Major in Nursing)

BSN (Major in Healthcare Management)

Completing classes this year in Healthcare Sciences (BSN);

and in all my years of nursing,with 3 licenses,I've not had anything negative on my records. I attribute this because I'm known for my fairness in dealing with those under me(I'd not ask anything of them that I wouldn't do),an open-door policy(even CNA's,LPN's,and RN's have ideas and I listen and learn everyday), and the places I've worked have always known that with me; the clients,patients,or residents...come first.

Betts, totally jump on the Asst. Dean position. You don't wanna move to D.C....that place is a jungle. Colorado...aaaaaahhhhh. Can't you just smell the fresh air?

Actually,I'm within 50 miles of DC and used to work in Arlington right across the Potomac from the Pentagon. I had to be there by 8am and always left home by 5am.......yep, I95 traffic is that bad!

Wow Betts, with that kind of a career you would probably be an excellent assistant dean!!! My favorite profs in school were those who liked and practiced at the bedside.

Go to the interview, see what they have to offer. I, too, love the bedside. I also enjoy teaching because I can bring that enthusiasm to my students. You talked about losing one nurse to patient care; but you would adding hundreds of nurses with the same values of nursing that you have.

THere is nothing like taking those students to their first clinical experience--the excitement and enthusiasm soon leaves us after we graduate. Imagine being able to work with that feeling of "I'm going to make a difference" from your students. I love nursing, but I also love teaching. I am being downsized in my teaching position (no money in budget since 9-11) It really sucks because I love working with the students. But I know I will find something else. That is the beauty of nursing. When one door closes another opens. Don't slam that door shut until youve seen what is inside.
