Shadowing II

  1. Well I got to go shadow Saturday. Spent the days on Peds. I actually loved it. The nurses were awesome. There was this one little guy who had nothing to eat since midnight cause they were ordering an MRI with sedation. In the recovery room they had a code so the little had to wait. Well he was unhappy and hungry. I went downstairs and bought him a balloon. He was so thrilled with that....
I had several nurses tell me that they would never recommend nursing to anybody. Mainly due to the pay, management, and you have to do everything but they love their jobs. My question is...does this not go for all jobs?
I am a little undecided now which way to go.

are you unsure that you still want to do nursing or are you unsure that peds is what you want?

i say follow your heart. the people that were telling you not to go into nursing may just be mean people (and mean people suck) or they could have been the best nurses in the world and just having an off day.

follow your dreams. if you want to be a nurse, the do it.

I agree that it goes for all jobs. I work for the federal government and although some people tell me that I have a good job, everyone complains as well as I do. Management, the pay and all the rest are the same every where you work.

You have to decide what you are looking for in a job. I know myself, I want a job that gives me satisfaction. I want to go home at the end of the day and feel like I did something worthwhile. When I go home now, I feel empty and tired. I don't feel like I use my brain and when I am not here, it doesn't matter, the work is sitting here undone and noone seems to care either way.

I have chosen nursing to work with people and try to make a difference. I know reading some of these posts sometimes make me wonder, but if I don't try for it, I will never know the difference. Now if only I can make it through school!!!!

I wish you luck in your decision making.
