Scholarships

  1. For those who are seeking a little financial aid - try The Federal Nurse Traineeship. Congress sets aside federal monies q year. Every nursing student who applies can get some, until it runs out. Check at your financial aid office or a library.

Also, go to www.fastweb.com for some great scholarship help.

I wish you all the best of success.

Don't forget that military service has education benefits and that many employers will either help pay for you to go to school or will pay off your loans in exchange for some years of service.

Try not to go into debt, guys.

Thanks, Trudy! My DD is starting her pre-reqs next summer, I'll tell her about this.

Trudy- I just did a search and it appears that this Federal Nurse Traineeship is only good for Masters and PhD students. Is this correct or is there another aspect of the traineeship that I am missing?

    Thanks

fastweb has scholarships for everyone. I first found it when I was a jr. in high school. And I just rediscovered it 6 years later.

Do you know if there's a website that I can read about The Federal Nurse Traineeship? I did a google search but all I seem to see are school's pages that have it for they're school. My school just started our nursing program so I doubt that they will have information...but I will check. If they don't, how else can I find out about this?

Hmm, come to think of it, maybe the Traineeship is just for Master's and doctorates. Darn.

But do check with the librarian at your school and with the Fi Aid office. Also, as stated, remember that if you give military service, you get lots of benefits in return, including education, housing loans, health care, retirement credit, permission to shop at the base PX's, maybe more.

And lots of employers are eager to hire RN's so they help them pay off their loans. Some will help aides become nurses, too. So don't overlook this source of help.
