RN License plate

In my state we can get an auto license plate that has RN with a picture of stethoscope on it. Today I learned an Lpn in my facility has one on her car. She is not in school to obtain her her and no one in her household is an RN. I just find this strange.

NC has one, but I opted to get a JDRF one for my son :D

Indiana has plates too, If mine weren't already personalized I'd get them once I finish up!

I just would never want a license plate that said RN on it at all. Doctors don't have special "Doctor" license plates do they?

I for one wouldn't want people to know I'm a nurse, and expect care automatically. Their are a lot of people in the state of texas that think they know the law, like when I was in high school JROTC the Ltc, thought that any person that has medical training, emt, paramedic, nurse, doctor etc, had to stop at the scene of an accident, and if they didn't he'd try to report them. Plus people asking you for needles etc, or painkillers. Don't get me wrong I'm all for stopping and helping someone, but just remember a dead rescuer rescues no one. Not to mention stalkers etc. And to get back to the original post, the state probably doesn't have a lpn/lvn plate. Or she might be going back to school. Though we all might be looking for another profession, or country if Obamacare is implemented. GOD HELP US.

I don't know if they still do, but some states used to. Back when doctors made house calls, that give some protection against parking tickets.

Illinois will have nursing plates shortly.

"Hmm... agree who would want an RN license plate."

I've paid for an RN license plate for several years simply because my extra payment for the plate is applied to a foundation for nursing education. However, I had to provide my RN license to qualify for the plate.

I'd send the foundation a check on my own and have the peace of mind knowing my privacy was maintained.

I saw an anesthesiologist whose plate said "IINTUB8."

Yeah I don't want people knowing I'm a nurse. I've learned to stay quiet at work about my opinions (my opinions are almost the opposite of some of my coworkers, and it's not worth getting into it with them), and I learned to not say I'm a nurse when this one lady kept going on about she didn't go into DKA with a BS of 1000 (wasn't there so I don't know what they did), and didn't understand why the nurses weren't worried about her BS when it went up to 160 something and her target BS was 120. With all that mentioned, seriously, I want that on my car? No thank you. The only way I'd get it is if it was cheaper than the regular license plate, like significantly cheaper.

When I was a newbie, I was so proud of being an RN that I wanted to shout it out to the world. Physicians had special license plate designations and I wanted nurse plates too. But that changed as I got along in our practice. And it's primarily a SAFETY issue.

I worked visiting nurse for a while and we had ID cards for our auto dashboards when we visited apartment complexes. Our cars were being broken into and at times, we saw suspicious folk standing nearby when we would return to our cars. We had the police check and realized we were being targeted by lowlife for drugs and/or paraphernalia. We stopped using the ID and would just check in with the complex security desk. Having an RN license could invite similar safety issues.

It was for the same safety issue that I stopped hanging my stethoscope on my rear view mirror. Some knut was standing by my car waiting for me when I stopped at a McD. Tried starting a conversation with me about nurses and his terrible hospital experiences that gave me the willies. Stopped hanging my steth there afterwards.

I think NJ still doesn't have the special plate. Thank you very much, but NO; I don't want to be singled out for my safety.

I have toyed with the idea of getting a vanity plate that says 'MURSE' after graduating and passing the NCLEX, but like others have said, I wouldn't want people bugging me about their 3-year old's cold while I'm at Target buying milk -_- My brother is a software engineer, and when people find out he is working on his master's degree in computer science, they pelt him with hundreds of questions about their computer.

Interesting! I would only get it if it came along with parking privilege like MD plates have. But I'd wait for the NP version.
