RN - $14.75/hr?!?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I called them and it is real. "This is a low key environment and a privilege to work for Bush Gardens Tampa. This is a seasonal position that we prefer to have experience but all applicants but that is not at all necessary. We have a full time paramedic staff that the nurse will assist" When I pointed out that occupational health nurses are credentialed she replied that the seasonal nurse will only be doing data entry and following procedure. I told her I was surprised that the education for a licensed position was a high school diploma and NOT graduation from and accredited nursing program...she was confused but mentioned that there is a surplus of nurses looking for work. When I mentioned that was pitiful pay for a RN with any experience...she said "We are looking for young motivated individuals that are looking for a fun seasonal environment" I mentioned that was against the EEOC and Federal labor laws....I got crickets.

They want a warm desperate body

My new hero!

Specializes in Critical Care, ED, Cath lab, CTPAC,Trauma.

Ah...shucks....:shy:...thanks

Specializes in Critical Care; Cardiac; Professional Development.

Young motivated individuals? So much for the retired nurse then, eh?

Wow. Just...wow. I guess the only benefit of this is that SOMEONE is acknowledging the surplus in public. But yeah...bodes poorly for nursing wages as a whole.

You rock Esme! :)

Dayumm. Seriously, Esme? HS diploma is the minimum educational requirement, but must be an "RN?" How does that work? And "young?"

Interesting, though, that they knew enough to know there is no nursing shortage, and pulled out that trump card. "You should be SO LUCKY to work for us!"

Can't believe anyone would want to represent that place, anyhow. Especially after watching "Blackfish."

This is all very disturbing.

Specializes in ED, ICU, MS/MT, PCU, CM, House Sup, Frontline mgr.

I love what you did too! Thanks!

Anyway, they want more than a warm body; they want a young age New Grad. Their ideal candidate is one who will not ask any questions because he/she will not know to do so and one who will not mind performing a job beneath his/her license (Who is this person answering too.. I mean "assisting", again?). Yep, you are not good for the job… You think too much, ask too many questions, and are not WOWed by the work enviroment to ignore the pay. ;)

Love the typos by the way....LOLOLOLOLOLOL

Someone at Busch Gardens doesn't have a clue.

Specializes in Oncology.

How is it against labor laws? Also, so you'll be assisting a paramedic. That kinda doesn't make sense.

Provide world-class service to all team members

For $14.75/hr, you'd be lucky if I showed up to work awake.

I made more than that as a CNA! Twice that now as an RN. Holy cow!

I don't think I will move to Florida. Looks like a trend is starting.
