Hi! As far as I know you need at least a Master's Degree in order to work as a nurse researcher. A PhD program is the norm, and Nurse Researchers are usually Doctors of Philosophy. According to University of Tennessee: "The purpose of the Doctoral Program in Nursing is to produce nursing research scientists and scholars. That purpose will be achieved through an educational program that emphasizes (1) developing and testing theories and models of nursing care; (2) clinical nursing research; and (3) social, political, legal, and economic implications of health care policies and practices."

You can do a google search on the topic and find out more about it that way. Good luck!
