Hi all, just a query about standards for staffing in recovery. Here in Australia we have a set of standards (not law) which most hospitals try to adhere to as these standards are used for benchmarking and for all court work. Currently in the hospital I work our manager has decided that the usual standard of having 2 RN's present when patients are in the room is not necessary, and one person present with up to 3 patients is quite acceptable. I dont agree with this and it IS contrary to the above mentioned standards. He is well aware of the legal implications of working this way but choses still to staff us with one RN prn. What is common practice in the States? How is your staffing determined for the Recovery room?
Any info appreciated
