Received this email today and I am steamed!!!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I received the following email today from a RN/friend that I worked with and I am ticked! I cannot believe that this is making its way around the world wide web. At first I thought that they had just misused the word experienced and graduate. Or that perhaps they should substitute "experienced" for "burned out" or "incompetent" and "graduate" for "competent". Then I thought this email serves absolutely NO good purpose. It is just another symptom of the bigger problems in Nursing (have you seen one of these for drs? firefighters? police officers? etc?)

You have to look at the humor. After all, someone with NO nursing background would not even understand the underlying meanings. I am a recent graduate nurse and I think that this is HILLARIOUS! I see the "experienced" nurses and what they do at work and I see the new nurses and the way they react (as well as myself) to the same situations.......I think that no harm was intended by this email and I'm sure you probably all know a nurse that has done one or more of these things.

This is tongue in cheek humor. It's not meant to be offensive-just funny.

I am sorry that this upset you. It is only a joke. I am a graduate nurse and even I found it to be funny.

I'm a new grad and thought it was hilarious; it seemed to poke a pretty even amount of fun at both veterans and new grads alike. :)

I thought it was pretty funny, and I'm just a nursing student. Does that make me an experienced nurse?

It's just a joke. I don't think it's supposed to be a laundry list of facts about nurses.

Ditto.

Sometimes you just have to give up taking everything as an insult and laugh. Nothing more and nothing less.

i guess i'm an experienced nurse because i laughed

Me too...

I'm printing it off to hang up at work! :chuckle:

i think the answer is in that last line. a graduate nurse won't find this funny; an experienced nurse does. as an experienced nurse, i find it funny! so will you in a few years, assuming you last that long. one thing it takes to achieve longevity in our profession is a sense of humor!

Soory to offend anyone, but this is hilarious-(its so true)

I think it is funny. Just remember that once that graduate nurse steps into the real world and out of those books (which is usually the first day on the job) they will be "experienced" and think this is funny!!!!
