:angryfire I have almost hit my breaking point with school, i am set to graduate in the spring of 2007, but my class mates and i have encountered a problem. In the middle of our two year program ( we are going for our associates degree) the faculty changed our program. In nursing 1 and 2 we were granted four test grades as well as three math test grades and 3 care plan grades that resulted in our final grades. They used a grading system that is very hard to understand but in a nut shell if we passed all three math tests we would get an additional 10-15 points added to our final grade which could push those on the edge over to passing. On our first day of this semester, we were told that our math grades no longer matter, other than the fact that if we dont pass them we get kicked out of the program, add to this the fact that our care plan grades dont even kick in until after we get the required grade to pass. I just feel like we are being set up to fail, perhaps i am just frustrated and venting, but i would like to know if all schools are like this, or if i am just over reacting. I look forward to any input anyone can give me. Thanks.

Our school is the same, except if there are questions on the exams that the teaching staff 'kick out' because the majority of the class got them wrong, and you get them right, you lose the credit for those questions:angryfire , that is just plain WRONG. If they kick out 3 questions that you got right, then they should compensate with giving you credit for 3 that you get wrong. I have a couple of my class mates that went from pass to fail over this practice. This, I believe, is unfair. Also, most of our instructors are unapproachable. If you ask a question they rip into you, a lot of times in front of patients. Sometimes they seem to forget that we're students.

My advice: Chin up, and get determined.

Last year semester the passing grade for nursing was 77, this semester they raised it to 79. I just have to study more. You reach too far to quit now, just continue to stay focus and study. I wish you the best of luck.

yes, it sounds like you are just venting because you have come to far to give up. your school is wrong to implement changes to a graduating class. i think the best advice is it is okay to vent but don't let it consume you.

you have more important things to accomplish. try to let it go for now and advise the class behind you what happened to your class and maybe they can work things out so they won't experience the same thing.

Our ADN program requires a 79% average on the tests, less than that and you fail the course. If you have that, then other assignments are added to your overall grade which can raise or lower your final grade. Math tests are not included in the final grade:crying2: . You have 5 attempts to pass those with 2 wrong or less.

Don't quit! You have come too far, it's almost over. I don't know where you go to school, but I am in Florida and it is illegal (I have been told) to change the "rules" half way thru a program. I would do what someone else said and talk to the dean of the school (en masse) with all of your other classmates. I think your only other option is to just keep your mouth shut, do your best and give them the finger at graduation (after you get your seating pass of course!!) Good luck...

Like llg so wisely said: go with the flow. same thing happened to me in school PLUS two of the instructors going for PhD so they were mean, tired and crabby as hell.

Get used to it. Nursing is all about changes and if you are not extremely flexible, you will simply break.
