Students: please don't post your homework questions without even doing some critical thinking on your own!!! It's ok to discuss your answer for understanding, but when you want handouts you are doing a disservice to you and all nurses! *If you do happen to pass the boards and become a nurse, how do you expect to "put it together" when John Doe starts tanking in front of you??? *How scary is it that many new nurses are coming up on the scene that just "sailed along"...
Also, for those that think nursing is the answer to a failing economy...stop. *No, you will not become rich doing this. *Yes, you will eventually get splashed with something disgusting. You will work holidays. You will be expected to work during disasters. (I worked during Katrina and Wilma and wasn't sure if I had a place to come back to!) *Don't expect to be a boss right after school. Expect to pay some floor dues. And please stop with the feelings of entitlement! *Nothing is beneath you...
I'm done for now...

- Oct 31, '09 by LacieHaha we didnt have internet when I went to school heck we had just got Apple's for the research dept!! Didnt have the benefit students do today and we had to do everything the old fashioned way - Researching in a book/magazine or other documentation!! Good old fashioned reading and writing lol. No laptops to tote our work in and lots and lots of note taking with good old pen and pencil. Good post OP.

Especially the part to 'stop with the feelings of entitlement'. This has to be something new in the past 5 years as I have never seen it more rampant as now! makes me ill..... - Oct 31, '09 by SparrowhawkYou will sometimes also work all three shifts in the span of two weeks. More then once.

- Oct 31, '09 by ellakateThanks to all posters. I have wanted to say something, but don't want to start the "eating their young" conversation.
- Oct 31, '09 by mamamerleeI was once on the last bus over a bridge before it was closed due to the snowstorm. Worked well past my 8 hrs that day! Plus, I was the only RN who made it in, so I got to be the charge nurse! And I worked within walking distance of more than one job - guess who got called when others couldn't get in?
Nights? Weekends? Holidays? I've done my share of those! - Oct 31, '09 by Always_LearningAlthough I am a student myself, I must say "Amen!" to this post. It bothers me when I see students posting entire homework assignments and asking for "help." Now if you are confused on a certain topic, or would like some insight on something specific, that's one thing. But it irks me when students want others to do their entire assignment for them. (Especially when I bang my head against the wall enough to figure my stuff out by myself!)
So THANK YOU to all of you experienced nurses who give us support, advice, and encouragement...but on behalf of self-respecting students everywhere...don't do our homework for us. :chuckle
