Question-how far do you travel for work daily?

  1. I was wondering how far some of you travel to work and back daily. I live in fairly rural area and I now drive 36 miles round trip for work. I am thinking about taking a job in a larger city farther away. I would be travelling about 80 miles round trip for this job. The hours and days are appealing to me and so is the work. (Pre-op for cardiac caths and such). My husband is kind of concerned about the drive, especially in the winter. Some of the driving is country highway, the rest pretty much interstate. I am just trying to see what the pros and cons are of driving somewhat a distance to work. Thanks.

WOW!! That is quite a distance. My drive would be about 45-50 minutes depending on the traffic.

I only drive around 10 miles round trip and I love it. I have time to come home cook dinner and enjoy the evening before the routine starts over. It may be great hours but how amny of those great hours will be spent in the car traveling?

31 miles one way. It takes 45 minutes to drive, though. Way too many small towns with sloooooww speed limits (25 mph; 35 mph, etc)

    Cheers!

    20 miles, one way.

30 minutes doing the speed limit of 65, 20 minutes doing 80.

Would take me over an hour if I worked day shift d/t traffic.

A blessed 10 minutes. Can do it easily on autopilot.

46 miles each way, and about 1 hr. 15 minutes each way in good traffic. I just accepted another position closer to home, so the trek will only be 12 miles each way and about 15-20 minutes. After 6 years of dealing with Chicago traffic, I am TOO THROUGH!!!!

Before you take the position further from home, consider the wear and tear on your car, replacement of your vehicle every few years, cost of operating said vehicle, and the drain on you physically from the drive, especially in bad weather. And of course, the hourly compensation for the time spent in the car driving.

It's about 13 miles each way to work for me... 20-30 minutes depending on the traffic...(definitely quicker if I get up early enough to avoid the true "rush hour"). Years ago, it used to be 35-40 miles each way... bleah.

    Peace

It's about 2 miles from home. 5? Maybe 10 minutes?

I currently live 6.5 miles from work. Before I moved into town, it was just under 30 miles each way...took about 40-45 minutes to drive, depending on traffic, etc. I also crossed time zones going to & from work. The drive wasn't too bad, but the time zone thing combined with my daughter's day care schedule was more than a little stressful.

The up side of the drive was time on my own. The down side included increased gas consumption, changing time zones (let's see, it's 5am here, I have to be at work at 8am there, leave here by 6am, dress my child while she sleeps, brush her teeth, etc).

I'm glad that I moved...even gladder that my commute takes 15-20 minutes, depending on the time of day.

    Good luck with your decision!
