OK... this may sound wierd, but I've been meaning to ask some of you wise folk out here, and I keep forgetting. But it just happened again, and I got up out of bed to post this.

For the past couple weeks, when I first lie down to go to sleep, I keep hearing a bruit in my ears !!! Really loud and rushing... like my carotids swooshing in my ears. And it's really starting to bug me. I can't remember ever hearing that in the past. ???

Any thoughts? Both ears... either side. Will wane after a period of time.. or maybe I just fall asleep and don't hear it anymore.. can't say. Never hear it when I'm upright, though. ???

Thanx for any input... will TRY to get some sleep now... ("swooosh, swooosh, swooosh").... :stone

jnette....During all my pregnancies I had PIH, what you described is similar to my first symptom... try checking your bp and see if that's it - High BP not Preggers :chuckle

You know, that crossed my mind, too, but would be HIGHLY unusual for me... heck, my baseline is 90 over 50 something.. always has been, for as long as I can remember! But it's worth a shot.. I'll have to check and see. :uhoh21:

This SUX !!! :angryfire I've NEVER had a BP over 110 systolic in my LIFE ! 110/70 is the highest I would ever run... and that only very occasionally. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... great. Now what?

Hey... I can even SEE my carotids pulsing !!! No FAIR!

How nice. Now I get to lie down and listen to my blood rush through my arteries into my ears and head... and visualize a major stroke coming on....

(am I being melodramatic enuff here?) heh.... :p

Well, nitey-nite, folks ! Forget counting sheep... I'll count my pulses. :rotfl:

OMG jnette thats pretty freaky

I'm one of those folks that has a 90/60 to

but sometimes when I lie down at night I have some sort of regurg feeling in my chest with squeezing sensations. It usually happens when I'm lying on my left side. A NP at wrk told me once about a condition the females seem to have that sounds like that But I can't remember what it's called. She said not to worry though that it wasn't serious so I try not to think about it. Now If something changes I will worry :uhoh21:

maybe take 80 of asa just for good measure and some water with lemon...good diuretic....not rx-ing only offering what i did.....

I can't believe you posted that, jnette, because that has been going on with me for about 2 months now. It drives me crazy when I'm trying to sleep!

Sounds like a trip to the doctor is in order for both of you........Me, I'm actually happy that MY BP is now in the 130/90 range, but that's because it's down from 180/120. :o But if you're used to running around at 90/60 and you shoot up to 130/90, it's gonna affect you, because that is a very large jump. And you need to investigate why it's happening.

Several years back, I remember having this same phenomenon---didn't have a clue what it meant, but I was also having headaches and a fair amount of stress at the time. Well, I'd already had HTN for years, but never connected the dots, so to speak, until one night at work when I was trying to take a patient's BP and couldn't hear anything but my own pulse thudding in my ears! So I went into another room and had a co-worker take my own pressure.........260/130!! Neither of us could believe it, so she took it again in the other arm......250/126.

Now, did I do the smart thing and go down to the ER to have myself checked out? Heck no, I had patients to take care of (I pushed away the thought that I could end up being one of 'em, if I didn't code outright!). I did go to my doctor the next morning, though, and it was down to 180/110 so it wasn't exactly a hypertensive crisis anymore.........but I did learn to pay attention whenever that feeling of my pulse pounding in my ears came over me, and I've caught several dangerously elevated readings in time to get to the doctor for a medication adjustment!

My BP used to be in the 90/50 range. Then one day had a minor slip and fall, and when the NP at employee health did the routine vitals BP was in the 180/100 range!!

Could be pain she said, go see your doctor....bottom line BP has no symptoms sometimes. I'm on Norvasc, KCl and Lasix and have returned to the 100/60 land of the living.
