Question about CKMBs and Troponins

  1. I'm a new grad with a R/O MI pt who has elevated CKMBs on the first three serial draws and normal Troponins. Can you help me understand the relevance of this? Because troponins are neg the view is that the pt's neg for MI, but my limited education tells me that CKMBs are heart muscle related... I know they're not as specific as troponins, but the pt hasn't had heart surgery or any blunt trauma. What else raises these levels? Pt also has a hx of HTN and Diab type I.

I am saying with this no. Troponin is spilt out of the heart when there was damage. This enzyme peaks at 12 hours after myocardial injury. This is the same as with CK+MB usually peaks around 8-12 hours after injury.
