As a nurse, if you were visiting a loved one in a LTC center and while walking down the hall, saw the following sign posted prominently on the side of the food cart while the CNA's were in front of the cart passing trays, what would your first thought be?

*************************************************

DO NOT EAT FOOD OFF THE RESIDENT'S TRAY!

Do not return food trays to the kitchen with the following:

BLOOD

VOMIT

RESIDENT'S CLOTHING OR BIBS

*************************************************

As a CNA or Nurse working in that facility, how would you feel?

Thanks.

Oh my..... sounds like a facility I would not want my loved one to be in!!!

Revolting. Why can't the sign just read:

"Do not add or remove anything from Resident's tray"

What bothers me about this (other than the wording) is the fact that somebody had to have done those very things in order for management to post such a sign. Don't they teach standard precautions in CNA classes anymore? And it never ceases to amaze me that some health care workers are so lacking in basic social skills that they have to be reminded not to eat food off resident trays. Once I caught an aide snarfing food off a tray right there in the dining room---she'd give the resident a bite, then dig in herself! Her excuse was "It takes an hour to feed him, and I'm late for my lunch already". EEWWW.

The first line is really something that NO ONE should have to be TOLD, which would make me think that the staff is incompetant if they have to be TOLD not to eat food that is not theirs.

"Do not return food trays to the kitchen with the following:

BLOOD

VOMIT

RESIDENT'S CLOTHING OR BIBS "

Gee if i saw that on the side of a food cart that would just make me wanna DIG ON IN!!!

:D

If I had a loved one at the facility, a sign like that would really make me question what type of things happen there. As mjlrn said, it must have happened for there to be a sign about it. I also think it is somewhat of an insult to the majority of the CNA's that are working there and would never dream of doing such repulsive things.

The simple fact that such a sign is displayed shows very clearly the incompetence, absence of leadership ability, ignorance of simple public relations awareness, and lack of respect for both patients and employees on the part of management. What else needs to be said?

What sjoe said.

If I were a nurse in that facility, I would probably take the sign down...

I'm sure that management knows who ate the food, and sent trays back with blood or emesis, but just doesn't want to deal with it in a one to one manner!

wonder why the management felt the need to post such a sign???

should be unnecessary?

My sentiments exactly sjoe!!!

If I saw that sign my first reaction would be disbelief which would immediately turn into disgust.

The sign needs to be removed and the people passing trays need to take some mandatory classes, after which they will be held accountable for their actions.
