PVT: Question of Character?

Okay, I fully expect to be slammed for this. What do all these posts about gaming the system to get early results say about the character of some of the new grads/nurse candidates? One of the prime requisites of being a nurse is good judgement. Boasting about or encouraging fraudulent behavior by using inaccurate or inadequate credit card information to get test results hours or days quicker does not speak well of one's judgement and maturity. Is this what we accept from our colleagues?

It may be harsh but I think this is a matter of integrity. I understand impatience very well, I understand wanting to know if all the work of school paid off, what I don't understand is how easily one can ignore the lessons of integrity and professionalism.

If one can lie to a faceless testing company how one respond when faced with a potential life threatening situation that requires, patience, integrity, and maturity. It's a slippery slope, a little harmless deception here may reveal character issues that come to light when real harm may be caused.

So, slam me, flame me, whatever, or I hope some will agree with me.

Well said. I don't have a problem with the PVT trick per say, but I have a very big problem with people putting in false cc info or worse - plan on disputing the charge later. It's sketchy and says A LOT about that persons character.

I'm responding to this because I love your User Name, but I also happen to agree with you. I stay out of all PVT threads. It's just tedious crap. I don't care about the "trick" or the $200.

My "Irish gets up" about enough in life. I don't need to get frustrated over this, which yea, is kind of suspect.

You do understand that using an expired/invalid CC does no harm to the company? The transaction never processes so the company can't charge it. Furthermore, it offers no definitive results other than stating you cannot register at this time. If you cannot register, then how can pearson vue lose out on money? If it does let you register and you are charged the 200 dollars, if you don't use the service (the registration for a new exam) isn't it the same as returning an unused or unwanted item to a store?

I'm not for or against the PVT. I live in a state that provides results in 24 hours via Contenintal Testing so I didn't pay an thing for results.

Although I waited patiently for my passing result and never utilized the PVT, other peoples' use/misuse of the PVT doesn't bother me much.

There's more to life than fretting over another person's perceived lack of integrity. This is a hill upon which I'd rather not take my last stand.

But you have to admit, OP has a great name.

What bothers me the most is the stupidity of it. How could a person be willing to risk $200 for news they will get in the near future anyway?

Oldandintheway, did you try the trick? Just curious. I mean no disrespect. Good judgement is a quality of good nurses, however, it comes with time and experience, not instantly upon graduating.

I think it's a reflection of the generation that is used to getting what it wants when it wants.

I try to stay away from NCLEX-RN threads. I don't seem to say the right thing to them, so I find other threads and forums to read.

There's a virtue that appears to have been forgotten by modern society...it's called delayed gratification. We've become an instant gratification society in recent years. Namely, we want it all NOW without having to wait.

They are working on it, soon there will be no PVT. At first it was if it takes you to the cc page now you have to enter the cc info pass or fail... Soon they will figure it out maybe they will change it to where you have to wait 30 day in order to reschedule that solves the problem.. I don't think there is anything wrong with using PVT but I do not agree with the misuse fraudulent part of it...

I did the the PVT. I used canceled cc and it took me as far as hitting submit but said I couldn't register. I don't feel that I did anything wrong. No one was mentally or physically hurt in the process. In my case it gave me a little bit of hope and my sanity until I was able to get my actual results. Which is what anyone who tries the "trick" wants. BTW I do have patience, integrity, and the maturity needed to respond to ANY life threatening situation in order to save my patients life.
