putting urine on burns? has anyone ever heard of this?

My wife (an RN) told me that her boss (an NP) burned her hand (i'm guessing it was 1st degree) and then urinated on it. I'm guessing this is a wife's tail and searched online to find subjective proof that this works.... can someone shed some light on this... I told her it was a wife's tail and untill I'm proven otherwise do not agree that it helps with a burn. Thanks in advance.

I had a neighbor SWEAR by this:

Every morning (First pee of the day) pee on your hand and.......

(wait for it...)

RUB IT ON YOUR FACE TO KEEP YOURSELF ACNE FREE!!!

and you know, I never saw him with one pimple ever..! lol..

I heard that baby diapers work just as well.!! :)

I believe saliva - even dog's saliva - contains some kind of antiseptic agent, but as for urine...

That is just nasty..haha....lol

I disagree with the use of urine to be used on burns, or for any wound treatment.

EWWW!!

I overheard a friend's mom telling a group of women that earwax- YES EARWAX was the best cure for a cold sore!! All I could say was who has that much wax built up in their ears????

:smiley_ab hmm... interesting thread. you could pee on someone's leg, rub it in your face, stick it in your ear.... it wont help with the jellyfish, wont clear up your acne... and it won't get rid of cold sores. wait.... earwax? what are we talking about again?!! ha ha

I don't know about putting it on wounds, but I've heard old wives tales that say if you pee in the shower it keeps you from getting athlete's foot. I dunno if it's true or not.

UHmm no and no.. But,, urea creme is used for exfoliating warts after they freeze them. So i imagine it would be useful for debreding necrotic wounds. But i dont know that human urine has quite the same uses.

long before i ever went to nursing school, i took a honeymoon in jamaica. my then husband was tramping through the sand, and got "burned" by some fire ants. the locals there swore that if he peed on his foot, it would calm the burning.

guess what?

IT WORKED!

weird, yes. but true!!

i believe saliva - even dog's saliva - contains some kind of antiseptic agent, but as for urine...

it does. saliva contains lysozyme, an enzyme that kills bacteria by destroying the cell wall. one of my nursing professors taught that before the development of antibiotics dogs were brought onto the battlefield during times of war to lick the wounds of injured soldiers in an attempt to prevent infection...
