I don't work with this CNA at all. This is someone I know who told me this information. I am just a student who is trying to get into nursing school and I don't know anything about condom catheters at all. So I googled it to find out if what she did was appropriate because it just didn't sound right to me.

She said that the only way she could place it onto the patient was to masterbate him and that is what she did to get it on. I am not a nurse or know much about this yet but I found it disturbing even though she told me that its hard to place it on a male patient if he is not erect and that was the only way she could do this. Is this true? I began to look up condom catheters online and no where in the instructions does it say that the penis should be erect. There is an adhesive that makes it stick to the penis
Well, gee with that kind of thinking does that mean the whole lubricant thing in regards to females and foley's can be ignored and the nurse just has to "stimulate" them for the foley to be inserted?? That is just SO wrong...All the way left--nothing right about it...

Why is everyone so shocked by this CNAs stupid behavior? She is a CNA, for crying out loud. I hear stupid stuff like this from CNA's all the time, which is why I have to keep an eye on my patients even more closely when i do get a CNA.
me thinks you need to express your discontent (about cnas) to your nm.
with an attitude such as yours, you need to work alone.

Oh come on. Enough already. Anyone without enough common sense to know that this is not ok needs help and is not in a position to take care of others.

I would guess you aren't very well liked where you work. Too bad, with help you could probably be a good nurse.

What? The penis does not need to be erect. If it doesn't fit without that, then forget it.

I would report her, stat, for abuse.

    1. The CNA needs to be reported STAT.
    2. As a nurse you shouldn't of even of needed to post this to get feedback. It's your OBLIGATION to report her.
The OP stated that she is not a nurse.

CNAs may not have the broader knowledge of nurses, but common sense should dictate not to masturbate a patient. It doesn't matter how much education you have or have not got, some things just should not need explaining.

Wow....I'm shocked by this post! Is it your overall generalization that all CNAs are stupid?
Well, in defense of my CNAs, some of who are in nursing school, I think that this statement
is unacceptable and wrong on all levels. I have some of the BEST CNAs that are very hard
working and make my shift much easier.

I agree with Leslie, 'me' also thinks you should take this up with your NM.

Trick I learned from a male nurse when I was a CNA--roll the condom cath on and stick the adhesive to the penis, but to itself as well. Stays everytime. No masturbating your patient required. LOL

I am just in shock that someone would do this, much less admit they do this.
