As some of you know here, I can't stand the sight or smell of vomit. Well tonight I was giving an antiemetic down this lady's G tube and she starts to vomit; I grabbed her pan and stayed with her while she heaved and hurled. The contents were bile, stomach acid, etc. since I hadn't started her feeding yet...and some frothy looking sputum. I totally kept my cool and stayed right there with her and helped my CNA's change her gown and bed. I deserve some vanilla ice cream! (But my sleep meds are kicking in and I'm just too tired)

On another note too....I think all my residents saw me coming down the hall and decided to fall tonight. There are 5 forms I have to fill out when someone falls, plus call the family, dr., DON, and Administrator. ARGH!

Good job. Only a fellow nurse can understand the accomplishment of being able to sit through a vomiting patient. LOL

Congratulations! It takes a lot of hard work to get over something like that~ I had a similar situation & it felt like a boulder rolled off my back when I got over it. Woo-Hoo! You Rock! : )

Well tonight was going sooo well, then at 9:20pm one of my Medicare residents falls and hits side of head. He was fine but had to initiate neuro checks because of his head/face/cheek hurting. Then the aides called me from the other hall....the woman with the G tube had barfed all over herself and her bed; they had to get her up and give her a shower. And I still had to finish up the fall stuff, count narcs with night shift nurse, and give report.

ARGH....out of the 4 days on my own that I've worked for this facility, 3 have had people fall. There must be a sign somewhere on my person that says "Hey Michelle is here, let's all fall or be sick tonight". LOL...

Well, it helped desensitize me because it was NOT chunky food vomit; I still haven't gotten over that one yet...but when the G tube/NPO resident upchucked, it was mainly liquid bile and stomach acid with pretty much no odor. I ended up waiting an hour before hooking up her feeding and by then the antiemetic had kicked in and she was good to go.
