Pregnancy during nursing school?

  1. Yes, I am seriously considering getting pregnant in the next month with my second child (my son is 6 yrs old.) I'm looking for realistic input as to what it is like to endure the final year of nursing school while pregnant. Have any of you accomplished this or know of anyone first hand who has? Any tips, advice, etc would be greatly appreciated as I am really wrestling with this decision. By the way, my husband is extremely supportive and would like nothing better than to get pregnant tomorrow! Thanks!

My best buddy in school got pregnant in October of her Senior year. She had an older child (2 yrs) also at the time. She managed to graduate with honors, be inducted in Sigma Theta Tau, serve on the Graduation committee, and of course make good grades. She delivered the baby in June, and took nclex about 10 days later- she passed. Her pregnancy was, however, entirely normal, so I suppose it would have been different with complications. Also, how are your instructors? Ours were very supportive. Good Luck.

However, one person had a tubal pregnancy with complications and missed a semester, another had a multiple birth and missed a whole year. In both cases they came back and finished later.

I also got pregnant in Oct. of my last year. I just grad. in May, and I took NCLEX in June and got my results on the 11th of July. I passed and my daughter was born the 20th of July (although she was due the 12th of July). I know of several others in my program that also finished pregnant on our neighboring campus. So it definitely can be done. I also have a four year old son and taking care of him was much more challenging than just being pregnant with another one. Of course it has put me a month or so behind my classmates when checking the job market, but it is definitely worth it. Good luck to you......it can be done.
