There are several states in the SE that pay that - parts of FL come to mind, especially with the house prices.

Wow that is super low pay. I'm very sorry. I would def leave

and go some where else if I were you. Texas - I make over 25 per hour and only in my second yr of being RN. There are LVNs where I work that make close to what I make cause they've been with the company a long time.

I wonder if you are in NC. I am. RN's start at just under $20 an hour and LPNs start about $10.75. CNA's here only get minimum wage.

Hey Fungez,

Usually those who make over 100k with only HS diplomas typically OWN the restaraunts themselves, and they usually own more than one restaraunt. But yes, I have also seen documentaries of McDonald's managers making 100k with very little education, and that is ridiculous.

I am talking about the managers who are working in corporate McDonald's. At the McDonald's I used to work at, the managers were making $11-12/hr. An LPN, imo, should be making more than that, and a nurse should be making more than double that.

I'm not sure why "that is ridiculous". Just because someone else's profession pays them a decent wage, for a miserable hard job, doesn't mean it discredits us or our education. Heck in my area most elementary school teachers are required to have a masters degree and they don't make much at all. It has nothing to do with my pay or value as a nurse.

What part of NC are you from? I have looked at hospital job postings in a 100 miles radius of here and every single one has starting pay of between 19 and 21 dollars an hour for RN.

We rarely see job listings for LPN's at all but from asking around I'm told around $10.50 to $11 dollars.

Could it be that I work in a county hospital. We will not get raises for a second year now due to non payers at our hospital. I am still making 18/hr plus 1/hr for nights=19/hr.

I will also add that i work in Georgia and we just passed the hospital tax so maybe that is the reason.

RN's in this part of the country drive very old cars and live in trailers (I am very serious!) Please do not flame that is just how it is here.

I don't think a manager of a fast food restaraunt should be making than a nurse who saves lives. EVER. And I think teachers are also underpaid.

I must say I am surprised to hear you work in GA. I live in NC, just above the GA border and we have tons of nurses who drive to Georgia to make more money.

That's similar pay to new nurses in my area but no way are you gonna qualify for welfare on that salary! I used to work with a CNA who was making $8 an hour as a single mom to one child and she didn't qualify for any sort of financial assistance until she had a second baby.

Though were I am $180k would buy you one heck of a house! A 2/1 with a yard, nice neighborhood and good schools will set you back $60-80k depending on how "nice" you want things to be.

In this area, you can totally make $8 an hour and still get welfare. I work with a woman who is making $12 an hour, with one child, and she is on MEDICAID!!!

Perhaps it's not my place, but I just wanted to point out that LPNs ARE nurses..

Also, the value of your dollar is relative to your lifestyle. If you live below your means, your dollars are worth more.. If you have lots of payments, then you get to keep less of your pay. It's rather simple math.

I realize that certain circumstances affect a person's lifestyle decisions (car broke down, etc)... but if you control the way you spend, it is possible to live on the incomes mentioned here.

I consider myself fortunate in that I am going to nursing school in Texas where the pay issue seems to be a little less difficult to deal with. However, my husband and I have managed to live rather comfortably and raise 4 kids (2 in college now) on his measly $17/hr IT job by simply controlling our money. (Our vehicle is 5 years old and paid for, we bought a house this year and it will be paid off in less than a 1/3 of the 15 year note, we carry our own health insurance through his company's small business group plan..) We have not received any sort of financial assistance in our entire 8 year marriage. I honestly don't even know if we would qualify...
