Do you see yourself being a nurse for the rest of your life or do you have an "after nursing" plan?

I've always jokingly said that in "another life" I would have been a pastry chef. The other day I was thinking about it and realized, why "another life", what's wrong with this life? I now have an "after nursing" plan. I'm 42 and I've always said that I would retire from nursing between 45 and 50...and I will. That's when I will go back to school and train to be a pastry chef. Then I will start my own little business creating and selling a variety of sinfully decadent sweet treats. I'll be doing the thing I love doing the most....singing over the never ending drone of my mix master. :chuckle

I can't imagine myself not involved in nursing.... My dream job would be dog breeder/rescuer/trainer, but I don't see myself making a living at it:)

After nursing , I would like to write a book , travel and start my own buisness.Life is too short and I have never found making money for others (aka being an employee ) suited me well . But I like nursing and have and will continue to learn a lot.

Hey, as many of you know I am trying to re-enter nursing right now. However, if I were to win the lottery I would go back to school and be a Marine Biologist. I especially love dolphins. Maybe I would become a true-crime author too!!

I would either sing back-up vocals for Jimmy Buffett (talk about a fun job!) or be an NFL cheerleader (don't ask - I have no clue either!)

But...seeing as how I'm not done with school yet (hurry up, December!) and the fact that I have chosen some very obscure positions, my plans are unlikey to happen. Besides, despite the fact that I'm not actually *in* the field yet, I couldn't imagine doing anything else. :wink2:

Looks like I'm in it for life. My after nursing plan is to retire in sound enough body and mind to do some volunteer work and help others.

Of course the body and the mind are both going quickly so I'd better hurry up.

Hi -

For 32 years I let my little light shine, watching for opportunities to Inspire people with hope, reframe their owies, and help them with "happy health" choices they wanted more. It's been *real, and fun* whenever I have been allowed & invited to share myself in this way. YET,

my soulmate and I are happily buzzzy expanding this to teaching classes, some people really appreciate... :balloons:

Probably be a nurse in SOME capacity til I die. I do it per diem/part time, so I don't have a huge risk of burning out. I have a life outside nursing, as well. That helps.

Currently in plan mode myself...as I'm really not sure I can tolerate nursing anymore, due to the working conditions. I may be just in 'enough is enough' mode and need to move on.

Nice to read of other's plans! Pastry chef, baker, barista (saw an ad in the paper for both yesterday and was really really tempted to inquire...perhaps I will be soon) ;)

Two possible reasons:

1). Because I GOT a lunch break.

2). Because I didn't have anything else to do for the rest of the night. A shocker for sure. :p

i'm in it for life. I love nursing. It also supports my bad habits. (aka hobbies). Nursing keeps by brain fresh with its ever changing technology, abilities, and healing qualities.
