Please help me with this paper

Hi everyone,

I am a little down in the dumps. I have this paper that is due next week and I don't know how to write this paper. I went to the writing center, and they didn't have any ideas on how to get me started. They told me that I should talk to my professor. I can't talk to my professor. I just can't do it. She is not approachable, and I don't think she likes me at all. She will bite my head off. I would like to get through the next 6 weeks of this class with minimal contact with her. That is why I have come here, I hope someone here can help.

The paper is for a BSN class called Advanced Concepts in Nursing. I have only had 2 classes, and so far, we have talked a lot about nursing theories, magnet hospitals, licensure, different APN options, etc.

here is what she wants for this paper:

Working Enviroment paper:
Submit a paper in which you address the working enviroment and it's support of professional practice. Assign a grad (A-F) to each of the 8 "hallmarks of the Professional Nursing practice Enviroment" at the institution in which you currently practice. Also speak to the elements of community listed in the article my Manion (2004), on the unit or clinic where you work. Also consider the elements of magnet status in your paper (length 5 pages, apa format, 5-10 references).

I have the 8 "hallmarks" in front of me. How am I supposed to list these and give a grade to each of the 8 in my APA paper, if we aren't supposed to write in 1st person? The writing center sais writing in 1st person is really frowned upon, so I don't know how else to do this.

Also, I am only plannning on using 5 references. One will be my book, another will be the article that she wants us to read and address. Can you think of other references that may help me with this?? Any idea on how to get this going. I currently love my job, but I did have a job that was a nightmare. I was thinking I could compare/contrast these two jobs. I am not sure how I will use 5 references. I am not sure how to write this, if it shouldn't be in 1st person. Also, how can I begin this paper? Idea, ideas, ideas??

TIA, I really appreciate any advice!!

I have the APA book and I plan on having the writing center review it before I turn it in. I think I will be fine with the format, if I can only figure out what to write.

I dont mean to sound snarky, but really. You are in a professional program, and being scared of your professor is childish. You need to speak to her, and if your courage is lacking, just bite the bullet so to speak, and talk with her about this, and get clarification. Dont make this personal with her.

Again, please dont take this the wrong way. I had a professor who didnt like me too; she tried to intimidate me, but I stood my ground with her, and she actually ended up treating me with respect.

References:
check out AACNs Healthy Work Environment Initiatives and information about the Beacon Award (sort of like a Magnet Award for a single unit).

Can't you just write "as an observer" about the site you choose? XXXX Clinic supports the practice of professional nursing. etc. No first person, you're writing objectively about what you see, what the staff says or does, not you're opinion about it.

Good Luck, Michele

What are you going to do if you have to deal with patients/families you don't like?
How do you cope with that?

Man up and go to your professor.

In all fairness, I've found professors in the program to be anything but professional, let alone helpful, kind or even upfront. Minimizing contact might be the smartest thing with a professor who insists on targeting anything at eye level.

OP, do you have classmates you can talk to for ideas and maybe get a jump start that way?

Best,

Southern

To write opinions in a APA formatted academic paper, one must keep the words "I" and "you" out of it. This author believes that one can take an example and switch around the words to satisfy this requirement, without losing content. However, one must be careful not to sound too snooty.

(get the point?)
