for those who don't want to read about my period mishaps...go no further.

i have posted before about my problems with my bc pill. now, however, i have not had a period since august!!! i have been to my ob/gyn twice and i am not pregnant. my pap test came back normal. i just have not had a period or symptoms of one since august. my ob/gyn is aware of this. i had tsh and prolactin levels drawn, which came back wnl too. has anyone else experienced this? i am just at odds as to what is going on with my body. i am scared that maybe i won't be able to have children or something along that line.

Are you still on the pill? For me, there are a few pills out there that make my periods "magically disappear." It's never been a huge deal, especially once they rule out everything else-especially pregnancy, and they always seem to come back after I've stopped taking the pill...though sometimes it takes a little while.

Occasionally, period problems can be an indication that something is amiss with your blood sugar. You might want to have that checked, if nothing more than to rule it out.

Good luck.

Y'all please remember we are not a medical advice board. The best thing is to direct your questions to your medical provider.

Yep, I'm still on the pill. Same one I've been on. Thanks for the advice on blood sugar. I know it's not a medical advice board, I was just curious as to other's experiences. I was on Depo for 5 1/2 years and have only been on the pill for about a year. I have already spoke with my doc a few times, but I wanted a female's personal perspectives :)

Thanks all :)

for the rest of my days i'm going to harp about this topic because i learned the stupid way. you said your tsh was wnl, just how wnl was it? do you recall the numbers? the american endo assn. has changed what they feel normal values are. when my tsh is on the high side of normal, i have no periods. yet to look at the reference range on my labs, i'm good to go.

so, was your tsh normal for the labs "normal range" or the american endo assc. "normal range" because it can make a huge difference.

did you have a t3 or t4 drawn? you need them all to tell the whole story.

We all have different ovulation cycles. Since I was 13, I have gotten my period an average of 4 times a year. No underlying medical condition, it's just my cycle. I have one child and one on the way. This is just my personal experience. BC pills, extreme dieting, extreme exercise, stress... a whole slew of things can cause alterations in your cycle. Like someone else said, your OB/Gyn is your best resource.

I was on Depo for a couple of years. Took a break and it was about ten months before I got a period. Back on Depo now and am very happy with no periods. Of course, I'm done having kids. If I still wanted to get pregnant at some point, I might look at this very differently. 5 1/2 years on Depo could mean a longer start-up time compared to my two years.

I wish you well.

My TSH was 0.72 and nope,I did not have a T3 or T4 drawn. normal for the labs normal range.

Thanks to all :)

Am no doc, but T3, T4 need to be drawn.

Don't want to put you into panic mode, but I have a friend who had issues with period just disappearing "periodically" off and on. She had a brain tumor - astrocytoma. :o

While it is unlikely this is thyroid related, please please please pretty please with sugar on top... get your T3 and T4 drawn? Please? I belong to a yahoo thyroid group and one woman complained of your symptoms and she too had a very low TSH. But her T3 and T4 told the story. She had mega thyroid problems. She now gripes about TSH worshippers. ;o) (Docs who only look at TSH and nothing more)

I tend to think yours is more of a hormonal problem, but what the heck... just get the labs.

How about polycystic ovarian syndrome? I have pcos and I've never had a problem with a "disappearing period" but i know many other women that actually stopped getting their period due to failed ovulation and hormone issues, etc. PCOS is actually a very common metabolic/endocrine disorder and maybe it wouldn't hurt to be checked for it....just a thought. I hope things work out for you...

luv,
