Umm, why are sexual relations being compared to defecation? I can understand not wanting to see and hear what should be private, but I think that's kinda gross to COMPARE the two!

My husband and I were very much in love and quite the passionate pair, and he was in the hospital ALOT...but we never even thought about having sex there. (well, maybe we thought about it). In 2003 when he was inpt, he asked the nurse if it was ok if I just got in bed with him for a while. She said that she couldn't give permission, but what we did when she left the room was up to us. So, I go to hop up in bed and instantly dislodged some important medical thing (isn't that awful--so many hospitalizations that I can't even remember what it was.) Ended up having to call the nurse right away She was nice, though, and told me to just be more careful the next time. His first hospitalization in 2001, our dd was 8months and my dad was living with us and had terminal ca. DH was in the hospital for 9 days and I had noone to help me with my baby or my dad. So I would go to the hospital, dh would insist on me getting in bed, I would nurse the baby and the 3 of us would go to sleep. Nursing staff were very supportive during this time. For the last hospitalization, before the coma et al, he would not get in the bed because he wanted to be near me and the "rules" wouldn't let me be in his bed. So we stayed side by side in recliners. I don't have a problem with that--it was CCU after all. So, my opinion is to have compassion and let people express their love and tenderness, but I'd probably say no to sex. I hope I never walk in on somebody--I don't know what I'd do.

    Along those lines, also...

when dd was 3, she had a seizure and they had her inpt for observation. I had to climb into the baby crib bed with her to get her to go to sleep. After she went to sleep, I got out and slept in the recliner next to her. The nurse came in while I was asleep and I heard my 3 year old very calmly asking for me by my entire name (instead of saying, "where's my mommy"). I should have known then that she was brilliant!

Ok, back to the sex stories now...

As a CNA, I worked at a LTC facility where I was told that a man would come in occasionally and rape his wife. She had a stroke and was paralyzed and could not speak, but her eyes told everything a person needed to know. The tears would flow after her husband left. There were 3 other residents in the room. They had to put up with this. He would close the door and pull the curtain around her area. The nurses would act like "see no evil, hear no evil, etc." but they could certainly talk about it. A few years later, guess who ended up as a resident in the same facility? I actually heard some of the nurses stating what they had in store for him and what kind of care he was (was not) getting. They were being vicious about it and said he deserved every bit of what he was getting. At least the poor soul, that was his wife, did not have to endure his "husbandly" rapes any longer. He could not get to her room.
We had this happen in our LTC facility et us nurses started making them have visits out in the lounge area where all could see so that he could not do that to her anymore! What a sicko to do that to his wife! Our lady would cry a long time after he left. As soon as we found out why, that ended!

I had a mental health client in her 40s whose father was not even allowed on the porch of the home she shared with 3 other ladies. I never knew the reason until she was hospitalized and I was chatting with the nurse on the inpatient psych unit. It seems that a couple years prior, when she had been hospitalized, her father went to visit her. They were in her room alone with the curtains drawn when a nurse walked in. My client was sitting on the bed with her shirt open and her father was fondling her! Ack! He was made to leave and Adult Protective Services was called. They were told nothing could be done because she was an adult. Absurd! I do not consider a decompensated, confused, schizophrenic woman to be capable of giving consent, especially for something as awful as that.

Fastforward a few years later, when I am her caseworker. We notice an interesting pattern. My client, who was stable on meds and compliant with them was decompensating every 6-8 weeks. We found these episodes coincided with visits by her father (he would come pick her up, be gone a few hours, and she would end up in the hospital a few days later). She is unwilling or unable to discuss what is happening. Her mother is in denial. It eventually ended when he became too ill to bother her anymore.

The system really let her down!

Unfortunately, I have. Was working night shift in the ER and enountered boy/girl, naked on a cart doing the you know what. When I asked what they thought they were doing, they stated they thought they had time because we made them wait too long.
    That sounds reasonable and honest
