Just recently someone was working on one of our elevators with an open shaft and no barrier across the door-opening. Imagine my horror when I saw a child peering over the edge! Maintenance said they had a worker there, but I was there and the worker was too far away to prevent an injury. I recommended baby gates, if nothing else.

I have a theory--when God wants you, you go. Very sad, very bizarre.

    Be careful out there, ok?

Oh that's so sad....I have a total irrational fear(as my b-friend calls it) of elevators, now we all know why.
    That's so so sad.

Nightowl, you totally freaked me out with your story because I am a volunteer at the hospital here and wheel patients onto elevators all the time. I definitely will check twice before backing onto an elevator now !!!

There was a terrible accident many years ago where a blind person stepped on elevator not knowing that the doors were open but no elevator there. It was very disturbing and reading this brought back memories.

Yep, taking the stairs is looking better and better. What a tragedy for all those touched by these accidents.

I kid you not, today I got into the parking garage elevator with another woman, and the doors shut, we went up half a floor, and then it dropped about four inches, raised, and dropped again and then just stopped. We both almost started crying!!! LOL! We were in opposite corners gripping the railings, and it finally started working, brought us up three floors instead of going down, and we jumped off and ran down the stairs.

I'm going to lose a lot of weight this way.

OMG! I've heard of these things happening, but in my naivete, I thought it was only a scarey story. Makes you wonder if it happens more than we would ever dream of?
