Orientation over... Now what?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

So I just finished my orientation as a PCT (computer stuff, skills check off etc, all off the floor stuff).

After I finished I went up to my floor I was hired to to see if the nurse manager was there. She wasn't so I called her office and left a message asking about what she would like me to do next now that orientation is all done. Today - I didn't receive any call back, so - I called again and left another message toward the end of the work day today (since I know sometimes they don't check their messages all the time).

The end of today has come and still no call back.

Any tips on what to do? Hoping to get a call tomorrow :-/

Very, very, very odd. You were not scheduled for any shifts? Is there another person in the unit who handles scheduling?

Hmm... that's interesting...

Is there any one else you can call first thing in the morning?

At my place of employment, new hires are to talk with the staffing coordinator or the HR director regarding getting on the schedule for shift work. Our managers typically do not handle scheduling unless extenuating circumstances arise.

Well I was told by the education department to contact the floor manager to see what would happen next. Which is exactly what I did at completion of my orientation training. Which - like I stated - she wasn't there :) I may call again tomorrow morning, unfortunately I don't have an email for her and can't seem to find one. I guess I will also call the HR department tomorrow as well to see what to do next, if they even know.

I also don't think we have a "staffing coordinator" that I know of. The only phone number that I received was that of my floor manager.

The education staff also said, what happens next (after we are done with them) is that we would get with our floor manager to orient on the floor next, whether that would be to shadow, meet people, see when they want me to start on shifts, Etc!

Long weekend ahead. Chances are she's off.

Stop by the unit and talk to the unit clerk. They usually know everything.

Finally called this morning :) next week I get to start on the floor :)
